Waterloo reports Andrew Malcolm Harbour alias Harper alias Ellis a 36 year old liquor runner sought after the murder of Bruce Hertske. Harbour fled in a car with Illinois plate 88 561 aided by two gunmen and two women, while authorities patrol Mississippi bridges in Clinton Iowa and nearby towns to prevent Harbour’s escape back to Sterling Illinois. A similar coach used by a Chicago runner known as Slim tied to the case was found abandoned in Dubuque Iowa with missing license details.

Lieut Alfred J Williams, a Navy aviator, established an unofficial world speed record at 302.3 mph at Mitehall Field on Sept 18.
