Fifty five men repairing in Kemmerer Coal Co Mine No 5 at Sublet Wyoming were entombed after an explosion at 11 45 this morning. The portal caved in blocking rescue efforts and smoke poured from the mine as a rescue party was dispatched from Trinidad Colorado.
Charles G. Dawes arrived in St. Paul to join the American Legion parade as a regular member rather than review the procession. Dawes, here for twelve hours with the Minnesota department, said he would march with Evanston post members and not seek any reviewing role.
Associated Press reports General Charles G. Dawes arrives in St Paul for the American Legion national convention as a Pershing candidacy gains momentum for national commander. Iowa chaplain Rev C H Vanmeter gives invocation and a noisy parade follows the address by Mr Dannielly. The convention adopts a resolution by Franklin D Olier urging a congratulatory message to world flyers.
Waterloo Iowa Sept 16 Carl Fleming and a companion fled to a farmhouse when a large flock of crows attacked after the boys shot the leader of the birds while chasing a chicken hawk. The birds pursued them to the door and circled for about an hour. no injuries reported.
Waverly Iowa Sept 16 United Farm Bureaus of the Third district opened a drive aiming for 10000 members by year’s start. Hardin county plan adopted as the local guide. Speakers included Ray L Gribbel Iowa Farm Bureau secretary and A L Middleton state executive committee member.
Police and county officials pursue clues in the strangulation death of a newborn boy found Monday in a West Jefferson and Park streets thicket. The child, fully formed at death, was wrapped in rag and paper with a newspaper from a Missouri city. An inquest date is set for formal investigation.

St Johns Newfoundland September 16 Leonard Reid son of the late Sir William D Reid is charged with manslaughter after an automobile crash on the Topsail road. Six persons were killed including Lieut. Commander J D O Callaghan and Lieut. Burroughs of the British warship Constance, among the victims.

Alexander Lindsay a 60 year old resident of Marion Indiana battled two bandits in a Cedar Rapids garage at 2 a m. One robber threatened to pour gasoline on Lindsay and set the car on fire while the other aimed a gun at his ribs. Lindsay wrestled the gun from the assailant but was cut on the hands and struck on the head before the bandits fled. Lindsay and his family were enroute from Coal Harbor North Dakota to Indiana.
Fort Dodge was chosen as the eleventh district Rotary conference site for March 23 and 24 after a vote over Burlington and Cedar Rapids. The event begins with a president's breakfast at 7:30 a.m. led by District Governor C. H. E. Boardman. Fifty-one clubs attend the conference at the YMCA. Delegates were hosted at Elmwood Country Club with a Tuesday dinner, while today's program includes a secretaries breakfast and continued sessions, with a noon luncheon at the YMCA.
London Sept 16 The Ulster cabinet met and reaffirmed its decision not to appoint a representative on the Irish boundary commission provided for in the Anglo Irish treaty. The decision was communicated to Prime Minister MacDonald of Great Britain.

Des Moines September 15 Dr Ada Fuller pleaded not guilty to a second degree murder charge in the death of Mrs Bertha Munger of Waterloo. She remains jailed unable to post a 5000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for Friday and a grand jury decision is expected within days.
A motion for a new trial and to vacate the verdict in the Patt versus Allen damage suit was filed yesterday by the plaintiff's attorney. Four reasons, including alleged legal errors, are cited as grounds for a new trial after a Oct 1 automobile collision eight miles east of Creston on the Afton road. Patt seeks 250 for car damages and loss of use, while Allen counters with 57. The jury found for the defendant.
Gov Kendall urged using Iowa coal to aid labor and industry. He said thousands of workers suffer from reduced local coal output and warned that winter shortages would worsen poverty unless residents and every Iowa business switch to coal mined in Iowa.
