Mail train robbery nets up to half a million

Four men boarded an eastbound Grand Trunk mail train near Chicago and seized currency from federal reserve consignments and Union Trust Company totaling between 160000 and 500000 dollars. English channel swimming record broken by Michel

Georg Michel, a 21 year old baker from Paris, completed the English channel swim in 11 hours 5 minutes to beat the German rival Vierkoetten’s time by 88 minutes. He faced cramps near the end but pressed on and landed at St Margarets Bay Fry eelock after starting from Cape Orien in the early hours. A cheering crowd of about 150 English supporters welcomed him ashore.

Three Arrested on Coroner's Complaint

On informations sworn by Union County coroner James McKee three men L. Le McGregor Harry and Clarence Coen were arrested last evening for interfering with an officer in the discharge of his duties. The charges arose from a dispute over caring for the body of James Bolton killed in a crossing accident. They appeared before Justice Adam Pickett, pled not guilty, and were released to await the court. They were not required to furnish bonds.
