World Flyers Reach Boston After 125 Mile Coast Trip

The American round the world flyers arrived at Boston Airport from Mere Point Maine after a 125 mile leg. Lieut. Lowell H. Smith led the trio with Lieut. Leigh Wade and Lieut. Erik Nelson following aboard the Chicago Boston II and New Orleans. Major General Mason M. Patrick welcomed them, a 21 gun salute sounded, and crowds lined the shore as the six aviators signed the hangar registry and met officials.

Marx Retraction of War Guilt Admission

Geneva Sept 6 German Chancellor Marx sent a letter to Prime Ministers MacDonald Herriot and Theunis stating Germany would publish immediately the proclamation denying war guilt. He said publication was delayed to not disrupt negotiations at the London conference. Herriot warned the move could damage relations with France.

Frederick, Porter Case Is Under Advisement

The case of Mabeth Frederick against J. H. Porter was taken under advisement by Judge H. H. Carter after evidence in Union County district court. The plaintiff seeks about 300 dollars over a car sale dispute. Two witnesses for the plaintiff and one for the defendant testified. John A. Anderson filed suit to collect a 650 dollar balance on a merchandise account. No court was held today.

Witnesses Question Ammonia Explosion at Inquest

Nine witnesses testified at the coroner's inquest opening into the ammonia refrigerating tank blast that killed seven people in Des Moines. They described machine operation and prior repairs while fragments from the scene were examined. the coroner withheld expert findings and the hearing will resume next week.

World flyers pass Portland bound for Boston

Portland observers noted the world flyers passed ahead of schedule, heading for Boston at 12:20 daylight time. They did not fly over Portland proper, instead taking a direct line over Cape Elizabeth toward Old Orchard Beach.

William Mehlhorn of St. Louis maintained his lead in the Western Golf Championship after shooting 74 to reach 220 total through three rounds. Eddie Held and Al Watros trailed at 224, with Held tied for second after a 76 and Watros a 75.

Lamont farmer files bankruptcy in federal court

Léssie Richardson, a farmer near Lamont, filed a voluntary petition in bankruptcy in federal court. He lists liabilities of 1,048.10 all unsecured and shows no assets. Construction of the Lincoln county bridge over Twelve Mile creek is nearly finished per county engineer Guy Perry, but weather halted approaches and a detour is in use.

Creston Legion Members Plan Attending St Paul National Convention

Creston Legion members receive notices about the national convention to be held in St Paul September 15 to 19 with a special rail rate. Fifteen locals including Adjutant Osborn and Commander Grattly plan to attend, with many more expected to reserve by mid next week. A big Iowa parade with corn insignia will open the event, with identification certificate fare available for eligible members and widows.
