Homer Ray missed last week due to illness.

Battles will be fought with a ritual exchange then knives once a victor is declared. deaths are buried and fighters return home.
Handicapped by rain and poor roads the Des Moines State Fair closed with a spectacular finale but likely a financial shortfall. Officials blamed adverse agricultural and industrial conditions and bad weather for low attendance over the last two days. A. R. Corey, secretary of the fair board, said farmers and manufacturers faced expenses this year, and the fair should consider itself fortunate to cover costs.

In Muscatine Iowa on September 3 a fire truck ordered for exclusive farmer use arrived near West Liberty. The two forty gallon chemical tanks on a high speed chassis with six smaller tanks on running boards form the core apparatus. Volunteer West Liberty firefighters agreed to respond to rural calls with the farmer’s truck within a ten mile radius.
Washington reports hospital training schools for nurses opened Sept 1 for women ages 21 to 35 at Fox Hills Staten Island New York and Fe Me Henry Baltimore Maryland.
Surgeon General Cumming announces a three year training course for women to become Army nurses. The program provides diploma training, cares for disabled military patients, and offers $30 a month for years one and two and $50 for year three plus free quarters and books. Applications are accepted in person and in writing at the Surgeon General’s office. Special credit is given for Red Cross trained or war hospital experience. high school graduates or equivalents required. college credits encouraged.
Perry Oklahoma residents report that two armed men robbed John Lincoln on the road between Woodward and Madrid. Lincoln was beaten and left unconscious after offering a lift. His car was found half a mile away with gas exhausted. Posse efforts statewide have not yet located the suspects.
Missoula dispatch reports forest fire conditions in Montana and northern Idaho much improved today. The largest blaze is in the Flathead forest near Glacier National Park, burning about 4,000 acres.
Chicago Sept 3 Associated Press Judge Kenesaw M Landis said he was too busy to respond to criticism from the American Bar Association over his holding a federal office and baseball commissioner post He indicated he might consider the issue later but did not commit to comment.
