Wilson North Carolina May 31 Claude Kitchin former Democratic leader in the House of Representatives died after a long illness. During twenty years in Congress he served four years as political leader and was known for his calm demeanor and quick smile amid party battles.
Judge Charles Scott of the Federal District court in Dubuque Indiana overruled a motion by A. A. Cooper and William F. Cooper of the Cooper Wagon and Buggy for a directed verdict and ordered closing arguments to the jury. District Attorney Lineville opened for the state as the Coopers face an indictment alleging false and fraudulent income tax returns for 1918 1919 and 1920.
Mr and Mrs A B Schroeder Mr and Mr W F Finefield Matt Conway W H Brady and C A Larsen have returned from Mason City after attending the Knights of Columbus State Convention All report a very good time with Mr Schroeder serving as a council delegate
The Aston Tigers defeated the Diagonal team 4 to 2 at Diagonal on Memorial Day. Pitcher Zahller struck out 14 for Diagonal while Ives and Snodgrass pitched for Aston. Diagonal had 11 hits to Aston’s 4.
Weather indications for the next twenty four hours show fair tonight and probably unsettled Friday. Not much change in temperature.

R I Pinkerton of the First Presbyterian Church reports back from Indianapolis where the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church USA held its annual session. The assembly drew over 950 commissioners and 60 foreign missionaries, with total church membership above 1 800 000 and weekly additions around 2000. The body approved funds totaling about 50 million and backed enforcement of the prohibition law. Next year the assembly will meet in Grand Rapids Michigan.
Memorial services at the Methodist church were well attended. Lloyd Thurston of Osceola spoke and veterans from three wars participated. A parade led by Iverson's Martial Band preceded the church service, and a firing squad salute honored fallen servicemen at Graceland cemetery.
Mrs Jas Seals, a charter member of the Ladies Relief Corps, was presented with a large bouquet on Memorial Day. She has been ill for some time and unable to leave her home.

At a preliminary hearing in Lorimor, Arthur Frey and Joe Leasman face a change of venue to Justice Adam Pickett. The hearing is set for Friday at two o'clock on rape charges regarding Irene Sheldon. Arthur Moffitt, charged with malicious injury to a vehicle, also has a Friday hearing at ten.

Police recovered a Ford roadster owned by Wil Wurster of Lenox stolen in Creston last Friday. The vehicle was found in a ditch near the Fair Grounds after being driven by local youths. Miss Bessie Powell of Afton was seen in the city for shopping and calling on friends.
County officials in New Brunswick reveal fresh details in the Hall Mills murder case. A man once cleared after an alibi is now under renewed scrutiny as investigators revisit crucial inconsistencies. Officials also dispute Jane Gibson’s claim that an unknown man killed the couple.
Mr and Mrs George Davidson and Mr and Mrs Grover Lawson with children escaped injury when their seven passenger Lexington overturned near the County Home Wednesday night. None were hurt. Mrs W M Jones and daughter of Shannon City visited Creston friends. Doris Brown of Diagonal returned home after a brief visit. M E Laughlin of Cromwell and Russell Nemeyer of Omaha were seen in Creston for Decoration day activities.
Chicago residents report that after nearly six weeks the state presented its case to the jury against Fred Lundin and twenty-one co defendants. They face charges of defrauding the school board.
San Antonio May 31 Clara Phillips the convicted hammer murderess said she will fight to the last court to win her freedom and clear her name to a reporter en route to San Quentin to serve a ten year sentence She claimed she was forced to leave the Los Angeles jail at gunpoint by Jesse Carson after escaping a Los Angeles jail last December.
Creston’s fastball club defeated the Omaha White Sox 5 to 2 at Fair Grounds diamond Wednesday afternoon in a creditable game. Bird on the mound for Weston pitched well. Creston heads to Corning Sunday for the first of an eleven game series. Ralph Gillespie of Los Angeles arrived home before departing for New York City for business. Dr. J. W. Rowell of Leon visited Creston. Howard McKenzie and son of Lenox, and Mrs. Hansell and Mrs. Parrish plus Mrs. Horn of Leon visited. Interior of the Iowa State Savings Bank being redecorated.
Creston High School will graduate eighty-two students this evening in its forty-fifth annual commencement. Two are post graduates, with a program including solos, choruses, and reflections from Dr Adrian Newens and Supt Arthur Crane.
Miss Bina Fisher and James L. Downey of Thayer wed Wednesday evening at the Christian parsonage in Creston. They have lived in the Thayer community all their lives and will settle on a farm near Thayer after a honeymoon trip. Friends extend congratulations and best wishes.
Funeral services for Eileen Reardon daughter of Mr and Mrs John Reardon were held at St Patrick's Church with Mass for the Angels officiated by Father O'Onald. The funeral party arrived in Creston on Tuesday at 10 20 AM and interment followed at Calvary Cemetery. Miss Nellie Wharton of Des Moines is in the city today visiting friends.
The Creston High School class play The Maneuvers of Jane by Henry Arthur Jones played at Strand Theatre before a full house. Miriam Reynolds starred as Jane Nangle with Robert Willame as George Langton and Richard Agnew as Lord Rapshild. Myron Burt and Gladys Lamb also led strong supporting roles.
The Dance at McNinley Park pavilion on Wednesday evening drew a well attended crowd with music by the Therestontan Dance Orchestra.
The Live Wire Club met Tuesday at Mrs. Schultz home at 607 South Walnut Street. After the business session the group socialized and enjoyed music with good attendance and three new members admitted.
The King's Daughters announce a regular meeting this Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs Floyd Benson located at 1000 North Walnut Street. A large attendance is desired to participate in the gathering.
L. A. club members met Tuesday afternoon at Mrs. England’s home. Officers elected include President Mrs. B. S. Leonard Vice President Mrs Cummings Treasurer Mrs. Frazier Secretary Mrs. M. F. Leonard. Mrs Bermer won a contest and refreshments followed.
The Lets Go club of the Women's Benefit Association invites members and friends to a minstrel program on Friday evening June 1. It promises entertainment and social gathering for club supporters and guests.
Keokuk’s F D McWilliams and Bethany Missouri’s W D Eades visited the city for business. Shenandoah’s Charles McMahan and Clearfield’s O D Rice were here on business. Lenox’s George L Goodale returned home after a brief stay. Mrs Amelia Ballou came home from Osceola after visiting relatives. Mrs Clyde Hixenbaugh departed for Chariton to visit the Silvers family.
