At about 10 30 this morning a boy lit a match and turned the faucet of a 120 gallon oil tank behind the R T McColl grocery store and set the oil on fire. Roberts tried to stamp out the blaze, turned off the faucet, and finally extinguished the flames with a bucket of water. The boy fled before being identified.

Rockford May 29 Five girls are dead and eight others seriously injured after a fire swept the Sutton Top shop in Rockford. William Downs Dies at Farm Home After Illness
William Downs died Friday evening May 28 at his farm home in Orient Township following a long illness. He was 70 years old, had lived in the area for decades, and leaves seven children: Glen Downs of Creston, William Downs of Chehalis Washington, Mrs Tous Thompson, Charles Hitebeork of Creston, Mrs Orrin Truman of Orient, James Downe, and Stella Downe. Surviving siblings include a wife who died about ten weeks ago. Funeral services will be Monday at 10 20 AM at St Mark's Catholic Church in Orient, with interment in the Orient cemetery.
