In the Columbia river off Altoonah Washington two steamers the Welsh Prince and the Lowan collided, killing seven sailors and injuring two firemen. The Lowan was said to be moving upriver under her own steam.
Frank Bridgman of Ashland is jailed in Cattlesburg after a warrant filed by W. R. Willis accuses him of marrying multiple women while married to Evelyn Seeley of Portsmouth Ohio and Elinore Prather of Ashland. Willis says Bridgman has wives in Akron Cincinnati Boston and one more. Bridgman denies the charges.
Chicago May 29. Wheat prices fell dramatically with May delivery down eleven cents per bushel and briefly at 1.18% below prior levels. May traded below July for the first time this year, signaling a surprising market shift.
Washington May 29. A conference of republican senators signals that invoking cloture on the tariff bill is unlikely. Democrats are solid against the proposal and leaders say enough Republicans oppose a cloture rule, likely dooming the motion.
Chicago weather bulletin shows generally fair conditions tonight and Tuesday with possible showers in the extreme west and north areas. Cooler temperatures expected in the west and north after noon Tuesday.

An eastbound Santa Fe train collided with a westbound California limited near Fort Madison Iowa killing engineer O N Eaton of Chicago and fireman D Taylor of Chillicothe Missouri. No passengers injured and only the engines left the track. the north bound report indicates the engineer ran past a stop signal.
In Boston today Marilynn Miller announced her engagement to Jack Pickford amid recent Boston party scandal involving chorus girls and Harvard students. Pickford hastened to rejoin Miller in Boston as details of wedding plans remained undisclosed.
The Supreme Court declared the Central Pacific Railroad ownership by Southern Pacific unlawful. The ruling reverses a Utah lower court decision in the final major trust dissolution case.
In San Diego on May 29 six United States destroyers from the eighteenth division of the Pacific destroyer force were removed from the active navy list in a dramatic ceremony. Rear Admiral Guy Burray led cheers as the stars and stripes were lowered and Charleston’s band played the national anthem. Crews stood at attention while ensigns were lowered and officers prepared to reassign personnel to other ships in active service.
The McCumber soldiers bonus plan appeared to command a senate finance committee majority but final action was postponed until Wednesday to allow more time for amendments and review.
Pensacola, May 29. The pleasure boat Swan with about fifty aboard was missing overnight after a fall storm then came to her dock early today with all hands safe. The vessel ran into the storm and tied up across the bay until it was safe to return to Pensacola.
John Moses a farm hand on Ralph Fiero's ranch west of here shot and killed Mrs. Fiero and fatally wounded himself. Witnessed by C. N. Parks, Mrs. Fiero's father, and her two children. Moses had pressed amorously. upon rejection he allegedly threatened elopement and fired two shots after saying he preferred death to dishonor. Mrs. Fiero died instantly.
The Supreme Court ruled the federal government is not liable for losses claimed by Pinesdale and Morrisdale Coal Companies from compelled coal sales during the war at government fixed prices. The decision narrows potential compensation claims from coal producers.
London May 29 Associated Press Horatio Bottomley former publisher of John Bull was found guilty today by a jury on misappropriating funds belonging to the Victor Bond Club. He was sentenced to seven years penal servitude.
Washington reports from the bituminous coal fields show a notable rise in production for the past week, totaling over 5 million tons versus about 4.5 million the prior high since April 1. The surge is driven by higher prices and demand, bringing into full production mines that had been intermittently active. anthracite output remains largely halted by the strike.
Miss Audrey Munson, the artist's model, swallowed poison Saturday night in a suicide bid. She had a .22 caliber revolver to finish the job if the poison failed. Her mother kept vigil, found the revolver, and gave it to the attending physician. The physician says she is slightly improved and may recover. The mother denies knowing the telegram's contents, which she says her daughter destroyed. Neighbors think the message was from a man in Ann Arbor, Mich., whom Munson planned to wed this summer.
Washington May 2 Associated Press General Gregorie Seminoff Russian Cossack leader whose deportation has been demanded by Senator Borah Utah cannot be deported from the United States according to a decision transmitted today to Secretary Davis.
The Creston Camp Fire Girls hold their first Council Fire tonight at 7 in the south part of McKinley Park after two weather postponements. About 120 girls from seven local Camp Fire organizations are expected to attend and participate in ceremonial work. The event is free and open to the public with plans to make it a notable citywide milestone.
Des Moines on May 29 saw no nationwide Blue Sunday impact as drug stores theatres and cigar stores stayed open under police hands off policy. Two shoe shining parlor owners were detained for opening and released after promising to close for the day, while vowing legal action to tighten Sunday closures next week.
Julia Hinds aged 18 died at a Perry hospital after being shot by her father William Hinds on Wednesday of last week. Hinds shot himself immediately after the attack and died by his own hand. The incident occurred in Perry, Iowa, as reported by Associated Press.
Lord Northcliffe announced that editors and copy readers of The Evening News will work four days a week instead of five. He cited intensifying production pace since 1894 and the coming wireless telephony as factors. The note accompanied the retirement banquet for W H Evans, who received 10,000 pounds and lifetime pensions totaling 3,500 pounds annually.
Train service on the Milwaukee and Northwestern railroads was resumed today after floods last week caused by a cloudburst. Practically all tracks and bridges damaged by the floods have been repaired and service restored.
