Poppies Bring Profit From Creston Sale
Poppies sold by the American Legion auxiliary in Creston raised 218.20 in profit from the Poppy Day sale held Saturday. Total receipts reached 273.20 with 55.00 spent on paper flowers made by disabled veterans at Knoxville hospital. Profits support rehabilitation and welfare work in the community. Auxiliary members sold flowers in the business district with help from girls in residential areas.

Mrs. E. H. Griffith formerly of Creston died May 22 at her daughter’s home in Cleveland Ohio. She was a member of the Women’s Relief corps and the Baptist church here for many years. In Scott City Kan May 28 a casualty list shows three dead one missing and two wounded as volunteers scour western Kansas and eastern Colorado for four desperadoes who robbed a Lamar Col bank Wednesday. Robbers Loot Strand Theater Safe in Creston Over $800
The Strand and Willard theaters safe in Creston was emptied of more than 800 dollars in cash including weekend receipts. Sheriff Collings and Chief London inspected the scene noting no clues but possible fingerprint chances on removed boxes and tools. The safe was dismantled with a chisel and hammer and four sacks carried away the cash and metal box. c. J. Harshaw reported the discovery to manager James P. Martin and officers.
