Italia Northward Aims At North Pole In 1928 Expedition
Kings Bay Spitzbergen May 23 The Italia started northward at 4 40 am toward the pole about 740 miles away with General Umberto Nobile at the helm. The expedition plans a 30 to 40 hour flight to study temperatures winds and magnetic variations while awaiting a possible pole landing and cross planted or dropped if landing proves impracticable.

Blasts Cause Heavy Death Toll in Four Mines
Thirteen miners were killed and four missing after a blast in the No 1 mine of the Yukon Pocnontas coal company at Yukon McDowell county. Rescue crews brought the 13 bodies to the surface and officials said about 17 men were in the mine at the time.

Former Creston Resident Dies in Denver
Mrs. J. C. Pearce of Creston died Tuesday evening in Denver at her daughter’s home after a two week illness. She was 80 and survived by her husband, five daughters, two sisters and other relatives. Funeral services are set for Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the A. B. Snyder home in Creston with interment in Prairie Lawn Cemetery Spaulding. The funeral party will arrive on train No. 6 Friday morning.

Creston council delays adoption of a proposed electric rate ordinance until June 4 at least.
