The Mather mine explosion near Mather Pennsylvania has raised the death toll to 60 as rescuers pull 13 more bodies and press deeper past the blast. Fire in air shaft No 2 is reported conquered by chemicals though crews remain cautious about further entombed men. A coroner's jury is convened to investigate the disaster.

Fremont man charged after auto hits mother and daughter
HK Rosenow of Fremont Nebraska faced charges after his car struck Mrs C V Yolton and daughter Kathryn at Adams and Elm Saturday night. He pleaded guilty to intoxication and fined ten dollars, while pleading not guilty to driving while intoxicated and posting a $500 bond. The accident occurred about 11 pm injuring Kathryn and bruising her mother as she bent to assist the girl. Justice Peterson set a hearing for next Saturday afternoon.

Girl, 4, Struck by Automobile at Home on Vine
