Amid a Cleveland school fire in Camden South Carolina on May 13 the disaster followed a stage accident. An overturned oil lamp sparked a stampede down a narrow stairway as flames engulfed the wooden building. Scores died, including women and children, with many bodies recovered and families wiped out.
