Junior college women performed music and readings at the Kiwanis club dinner at Jowana hotel. Greater Community hospital plans open house tomorrow from 2 to 5 p m to welcome visitors and show facilities. Four senior nurses will graduate tonight at the Methodist church with Rev C W Graham giving the address. May 12 is National Hospital Day honoring Florence Nightingale. Nurses training school invites girls and young women to learn about nursing. Scouts will sell tags to raise funds for the nurses home and a Strand theater benefit show May 16 17 aims to support the hospital society.

City Postal Receipts Show Big Increase in 1927
Creston post office receipts rose about 15 percent in the first four months of 1927 compared with the same period in 1926. New postmaster BE G Smeltzer announced figures covering February 1 to May 1, noting the year’s four month total of 15028.25 versus 15876.72 last year, and predicting total 1927 receipts will exceed the required 40000 annual level. He said higher receipts prompt more equipment and staff as the office grows.

Marl Hayes, suspected head of a Midwest narcotics ring for four years, was arrested in Cedar Rapids Iowa. Narcotics worth about 5000 dollars seized. Hayes allegedly admitted supplying Chicago and Minneapolis markets at 75 dollars per ounce and selling in the West for 850 dollars per ounce. Harry Kelly, linked to Hayes, also arrested. Ottumwa Iowa May 11 City Physician William H H Betts was asked to resign by Mayor Ernest R K Mitchell after arraignment before a federal commissioner on a charge of illegal sale of narcotics. Betts a World War I veteran was arrested by federal narcotics agents Harry Blizzard alleges Betts sold narcotics to Patrick Pool and took marked money. Betts waived to the federal grand jury and was released on $500 bond.
