Fiddlers contest won by Harry OBrien of Creston closes Creston s fourth annual National Music Week observances. OBrien netted 25 dollars with George Ross Creston receiving additional prizes and the event drawing large crowds at McKinley park auditorium.
The World Wide Guild girls held Mothers Day services at the Baptist church led by president Lethal Kiesling. Maxine McNees spoke on Day of Remembering and Opal Nelson on What is a Home. Esther Wright read scripture and Margaret Kiesling closed with Facing Life's Tasks Together.

William Finefield a Creston high school center won second in the tenor solo division at the state music contest held in Town City on Saturday He sang the Bedouin Louis Song James Wandschwer of Sioux City won first place Robert Jackson of Dubuque was third and Henry Muneis of Lamont was fourth Helen Johneoon of Orient high school a sopran who performed during Music Week won two honors in the State contest She was awarded similar honors last year Henry Harold Haintine of Orient competed in the tenor soloist class but did not place The girls glee club of Leo which school won first in Class B Orland Mapel who entertained during Music Week represented Mt Ayr in the trombone soloist class but failed to place.
Mrs J J Lyons departed after noon for Kent to spend a few days with her daughter Mrs Chester Lease. Mrs Dale Paschall and her daughters Darlene and Carolyn of Ft Morgan Col arrived Sunday for a visit with her mother Mrs J G Dorsey.
In Queens County Court House on May 9 the Snyder murder trial finished summations and sent the case to the jury shortly before 3 p.m. Millard portrayed Mrs. Snyder as the initiator of violence using alcohol fueled influence to push Gray toward murder by poison gas and asphyxiation.

Tornadoes and heavy rain from Saturday night to Monday caused extensive damage across the Midwest and Southwest. At least 55 people died and over 100 were injured with property losses near three million dollars. States reporting deaths include Nevada Gar land Wolfe City Kelloggs Missouri Kansas Iowa and Iowa City. In Hartley Sioux City Iowa three hurt and about twenty thousand dollars in damage from a northward tornado wrecked homes and trees.

Burial services for Sidney Day a former Union county resident and pioneer died May 5 at his home in Kansas City Kansas were held at Graceland cemetery Sunday afternoon by Rev C W Graham. Day born Knox county Illinois September 27 1851 married Cornelian Bethe March 20 1878 had three children with two predeceased. Surviving are widow four sons Arthur Salt Lake City and two brothers Join Orleans Nebraska and Normal Salina Kansas. Day moved to Iowa in 1881 lived near Creston until 1908 then moved to Kansas City.
