Four senior nurses complete the three year program at Greater Community hospital training school. The baccalaureate sermon Sunday night at the Presbyterian church will be by Rev. R. H. Robinson. Afton will host a new Commercial State Bank with 60 stockholders and 30009 dollars in capital and surplus. Frank Seeley was elected president and P A Donohue vice president. The bank will use the old Citizens bank building temporarily while awaiting a state charter and May 20 opening.

Travelers Club Backing Local Business Efforts and County Fair

The United Commercial Travelers of Creston urged cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce program at a Knights of Columbus meeting. Speakers highlighted city plans to welcome visitors, extend the summer school, and a record county fair to be staged August 22 to 27 in Union County. A flood-relief collection of 10.50 was taken, and delegates were set for the U C T convention in Clinton June 1 to 4.

Rebekahs Visit Neighbor Lodge for Degree Work

Forty five members of Royal Rebekah lodge No 47 of Creston drove to Pontanelly to exemplify degree work for four candidates for membership in Cora Rebekah lodge No 147 of Fontanelle. The meeting was attended by 100 members. Refreshments were served after the degree work.

Judge Fuller Away As Fred Teale Trial Prep Continues

District court did not convene today as Judge Homer A. Fuller traveled to Mt Ayr for a Sunday at home. He will return Monday when jurors report for the trial of Fred Teale of Leon charged with accepting deposits in an insolvent bank.

Union County Drives Surpass Red Cross Relief Goal

Rotary and Kiwanis committees along with Creston banks raised 1 5 0 0 0 0 with out of town support pushing Union County past its 700 food relief goal. The five service clubs reported 624.66 in contributions led by M F Stever and L B Nilsely 217 16 and J Hamilton Woodsum and Fred W Ide 160. Several large gifts from local firms boosted totals as of today with further donations expected.
