Music Week Programs Delights Kent And Creston Crowds

Large afternoon audience in the business district enjoyed martial music as Creston band adds two out of town players. Recitals by Creston pupils at the high school followed, with a Kent cantata and variety program drawing about 1,000 at the auditorium. The week’s events featured cantata solos, piano numbers, glee clubs, and an Easter cantata praised for quality and training.

Summer School Tours Planned by Chamber Members

Two chamber tours for the summer school program were conducted today visiting southern cities. Jimo Roper and James McCoy planned stops in Lenox Clearfield Bedford Malcy Diagonal and Shannon City. George B. DeWolfe and Fred Ide drove to Mt Ayr and additional towns.

Gray Testifies On Attack In Snyder Murder Case

Henry Judd Gray described using a sash weight to beat Albert Snyder and recounts strangling attempts with wire while under what he called magnetic influence from Ruth Snyder. The testimony, amid unruly crowds, portrayed Pinkerton-like coercion as he claimed no intent to kill on his own.

Legion Bugle Corps Approved in Creston Plans

Creston's American Legion post approved a municipal drum and bugle corps to be built from World War veterans. Dr W P Jones named president. Elmer Hardman secretary. James McCoy treasurer. Initial unit to include eight snare drummers two bass drummers eight buglers two herald trumpeters with Lute Bartlett as drum major. An outside director will train the group and practice several nights weekly. May 19 declared Legion Day with events at McKinley Park and hopes to invite Ralph McGinnis to speak.

Playground Plans Abandoned for This Summer Creston

Harry Coen, general chairman for four grad school parent teacher associations, announces that supervised playgrounds planned for Creston this summer are dropped for the year. Aimed to raise about 60 to 700 dollars, the project was started too late to finalize details. Next year the committees will push to adopt the program with school board and club cooperation.

Sermons by Rev. Owen Thomas Noted in Mason City

Rev. Owen Thomas of Fontanelle delivered sermons at the Odd Fellows' home in Mason City last Sunday morning and afternoon and spoke in the First Presbyterian church that evening. District court sessions resumed in the afternoon with Judge Warner A Fuller presiding after a recess for Creston lawyers in the supreme court. Forty Rebekah lodge members from Creston plan to drive to Fontanelle tomorrow to observe Fourth of July degree work if weather remains fair.

County to blade grade 100 miles of Union roads this year

Union county will blade grade about 100 miles of county roads in 1927 under county engineer Guy A. Perry. The work includes ditch cleaning, surface leveling, drainage improvements, and maintenance plus bridge work. Seven township bridges failed in recent floods, needing steel trusses or wood replacements. construction will begin once materials are obtained.

Webb Held For Car Accident

G. A. Webb of Creston posted a $1,000 bond on a charge of driving while intoxicated. County Attorney Adam Pickett announced the preliminary information filed by E. B. McCaun alleges Webb drove the automobile which crashed into the Mcptoun car near the county farm on the night of April 26.
