Creston Youth Sentenced to Ten Years in Reformatory
Creston youth Jim Donnard, arrested March 4 with Earl and John Clark for stealing about five dozen chickens from an Adair county farmer, pleaded guilty to larceny from a building. He was sent to the state reformatory in Anamosa for ten years. The Clarks fled after attacking the Adair county sheriff as he moved prisoners from the jail.

Creston high school student Thomas Hawkins won first place in the oratorical class at the pre district declamatory contest in Afton reading Learnt to Live. Virginia Jones placed second in humorous and Mildred Myenty won first in dramatic. Ten contestants from nine schools competed in the state series third round. Hawkins will represent Creston at the Stuart district contest April 1 with the state event set for Toledo April 15. Judges were Mrs Clara Wallace Miss Jean Platt and O P Latimer.
