Miami officials report the arrest of Police Chief H Leslie Quigg and six subordinates on murder charges amid a grand jury report condemning police brutality. Indictments focus on deaths of detainees and suspects linked to official actions, with reformers warning of further dramatic developments.
United Spanish War Veterans of Creston accepted four new members at a Potter post hall gathering. Named were Fred A. Hall and A G Smith of Van Wert, W B McCauley of Creston, and Glenn Petticorn Weldon. New adjutant W A McKee and instructor E O Moore appointed. Lunch followed at Boyce's Candy Land.
Los Angeles police report Rin Tin Tin the screen dog slept through an attempted burglary at Mrs. Lee Duncan’s home. Burglars ransacked the ice box and escaped unseen while the canine actor dozed.
John D. Haney was elected senior counselor of the United Commercial Travelers at a Knights of Columbus hall meeting in Creston. Mrs. Haney became president of the women’s auxiliary with Milligan Bell as junior counselor and other officers named. The council endorsed the Boy Scout movement, installations led by C W Hickok and Fred L Luce, and a luncheon followed.
Washington March 24 The Teapot Dome committee heard that Albert D Lasker gave 25000 to the Republican National Committee not shown in 1920 records and that Harry F Sinclair’s personal records miss a 233000 payment to Albert B Fall tied to a New Mexico ranch. Harold Kennell said Sinclair would not allow personal records to be produced. Fall will testify at home in El Paso on March 29 via deposition to be conducted by Daniel Thew Wright as legal counsel and government counsel present.
New York brokers petition for a three day holiday starting Good Friday as stock prices surge. GM hits a record 191.87 and closes at 190, with gains for USS Cast Iron Pipe and Dupont. 2,028,300 shares traded, third straight Saturday over 2 million.
Reports from Zamora Michoacan say government forces killed 36 insurgents who refused to surrender after a cave siege led by Lieutenant Colonel Aguayo. The insurgents, trapped without food or water, attempted a final breakout before being shot. two bands remained in the area.
Public grounds receive shrubs along the main entrance and near the building to conceal the foundation wall. Plants will be placed in round lawn plots as in prior years. The ranch property mentioned was valued higher. Bonds cited by Fall were said to be neither offered nor received as bribes.
Washington March 24 The senate directed immediate arrest of Thomas W Cunningham sheriff of Philadelphia county Penn for contempt of the senate campaign funds committee. Cunningham refused to answer questions about his 50000 dollar contribution to William S Ware’s 1926 senatorial campaign. Senator King urged referring the case to the district attorney with consideration later by the committee.
Geneva March 24 Russia unveils a world disarmament project calling for progressive cuts scaled by country importance and a supervising commission of workers and international bodies. Delegates criticize the tone branding powers as dominating and prefer earlier plans calling for full disarmament within four years.
Lord Cushendun, British representative on the disarmament committee, outlines three naval reduction proposals in Geneva. They call for cutting new battleship tonnage from 35 000 to under 30 000 tons, reducing gun caliber from 16 to 13 1 2 inches, and extending the life of existing capital ships from 20 to 26 years.
The Associated Press forecasts variable weather through the week for the upper Mississippi and lower Missouri valleys with one or two precipitation periods and frequent temperature changes.

Greenfield Iowa March 24 Arrested near Adair yesterday while carrying 4 220 in currency and three large diamonds J E King said to be from Texas was held in the county jail here today at the request of the sheriff at Fort Collins Col Charges against King were not known here but it was expected that an officer would come for him today
Mrs Earl Carey led a hot lunch for pupils and visitors at Dodge Township Rural School No 8. The event was part of county nutrition study classes by Ruth Cessna from Iowa State College. Visitors included County Superintendent Ella Day and assistant Kiesling.
Senator Dan W Steck of Iowa accepted an invitation to be temporary chairman and keynote speaker at the Democratic state convention in Des Moines on April 20. He urged Iowa Democrats to unite behind Gov. Al Smith for the presidential nomination, stirring debate among Smith supporters and favorite son backers. The party slate for state office was updated with George Kinderdine replacing George W Potts as attorney general candidate.
The Iowa state board of education denied a labor leaders complaint alleging discrimination by J M Fisk, University of Town building superintendent, in hiring for university projects. Des Moines March 24 The Iowa Press association declined to commit on the 100000000 road bond issue at its thirteenth annual convention. The resolutions committee backed the bond as a path to all weather arterial highways but the proposal was struck from the report as political. The group also adopted a resolution opposing direct radio selling and criticized government printing practices. Officers and directors were elected and two new board members named to join the existing slate.
Des Moines police pursue a motorist accused of offering rides to two girls and then assaulting them. Euclid Harrison 18 and Nellie Paulding 21 were found unconscious after the incidents with Harrison leaping from the car to escape and Paulding saying she was struck with a hammer. The attack occurred as the women were returning home from work in the early evening.
