The Four Power Pacific treaty was ratified by the Senate 67 to 27 with twelve Democrats for and four Republicans against. Earlier, senators defeated several amendments to the treaty, including Robinson’s pledge against secret pacts, while Article 1 passed 74 to 15 and Article 2 was rejected 35 to 59.
John Barrett, first assistant Postmaster General, urges expeditious handling of newspapers in the Postal Bulletin. Postmasters are asked to ensure incoming and outgoing daily papers are given immediate handling upon receipt at any office.
At a packed Des Moines conference 109 attendees chose a full ticket. C L Herring Des Moines was selected for U S Senate Colonel Matt Tinley Council Bluffs for governor L S Murtagh Algona for lieutenant governor Dan Speck Ottumwa commander of the American Legion for attorney general. The group cited Republican gains on the bonus tariff and finance as Democrats’ path to victory.

Washington March 24 The interstate commerce commission announced an inquiry into the reasonableness of practically all rates on coal in the western portion of the United States.
New York March 24. Counsel for Tex Rickard opened the defense for criminal assault on 15 year old Sarah Schoenfeld. They said a perfect alibi would be proven for November 12, 1921 the date of the alleged offense.
Reports say snipers on the southern Ulster border used light machine guns against reconnoitering parties. Snipers were active all day, intermittently firing until late hours between Aughnacloy and Caledon. In Belfast two class A special constables were mortally shot at noon on May Street.
Belfast in March reports seven deaths from violence within the city. Three more men were shot near the Fermaugh Tyrone border bringing today’s fatalities to ten in Ulster and surrounding areas.

In Ottumwa Daniel E. Steck says he will not enter the primary race for attorney general and will not resign as state commander of the American Legion. Tinley undecided in Council Bluffs as Brigadier General Matthew A. Tinley states he has not been officially informed of a governor bid and will consider before commenting.
Copenhagen reports the engagement of Crown Prince Frederick and Princess Olga arriving as a surprise to relatives. The prince age 23 and the princess 18, with the proposal said to have occurred on their second meeting at Cannes.
Washington March 24 National Commander Hanford MacNider of the American Legion expressed confidence that the house bonus bill would win broad support from former service men and women. He noted the bill differs in some respects from the Legion’s five fold measure but expected general approval among veterans.

Mrs Clint Henry returned from Springfield Missouri where she visited relatives.
The Southwestern Division of the Iowa State Teachers Association and Union County Normal Institute will meet in Creston April 6 7 and 8. About 750 teachers from several counties are expected. Union County teachers are required to attend the institute in connection with the meeting. Housing arrangements are being made for visiting teachers. The program includes sessions at the Court House Jefferson and High School Auditorium with speakers from the State University of Iowa the University of Nebraska and other educators.
In Des Moines on March 24 an early morning fire forced Lloyd Hotel guests to flee in night clothes. One woman, Mrs. Robert Bell of Omaha, jumped from a window and sustained a broken leg and bruises. Firemen extinguished the blaze before serious damage.
Dr. A Frederick of Shannon City visited the city this afternoon. Mrs. C E Sperry of Bedford returned home after a short visit with her mother Mrs. C B Stough. L D Massey and Fred K Fisher left today for Des Moines. Massey will return Saturday and Fisher will spend Sunday there.
Three sea planes and a destroyer have been ordered by the navy department to assist in the search for the flying boat Miss Miami missing with six persons since Wednesday. The owners of the craft said they were advised from Washington today in Miami Florida on March 24.
The Interstate Commerce Commission reports American railroad operations last year caused 5,587 accidental deaths and 43,324 injuries, down from 1920 totals of 6,495 deaths and 63,786 injuries. The commission estimates a 14 percent drop in deaths and a 32 percent drop in injuries.
