Chicago March 23 corn prices fell sharply as heavy selling to stop losses pushed May delivery down to 1.10 and September to 1.12 a bushel. The market recovered part of the loss but closed unsettled at about 3 4 cents under Saturday’s high with May at 1.13. A larger visible supply and strong receipts helped drive the decline.
London March 23 The jury in the Mrs Muriel Waterhouse versus Lady Wilson Barker case found in favor of the plaintiff granting 12 075 pounds claimed as extorted from Alfred Francis Waterhouse now deceased The verdict also ruled that R P Sheldon named as a conspirator had not conspired with Lady Wilson Barker
President Coolidge ordered an investigation to decide if the $1,300,000 appropriated for National Guard pay in the deficiency bill should be spent. Payment was to be withheld meanwhile. The funds cover payments through June 30, but the amount exceeds the Budget Bureau estimate prompting the inquiry.
James Schroeder 24, of Cedar Rapids and World War I veteran with Company C, drowned at Guam where stationed. Telegram to his mother in Washington reported the loss. body not recovered. Father F. E. Schroeder of Webster City and sister in Amogola. Local man enlisted from this city.
In Trenton New Jersey on March 23 Judge Bodine deferred imposition of sentence for Tex Rickard and others convicted of conspiracy in interstate transportation of films of the Dempsey Carpentier fight. The adjournment lasts one week and the judge urged ready appeal papers.
Paris March 23 M De Fleur iau French ambassador to Great Britain returns to London after talks with Herriot. He carries instructions to ease Franco British negotiations on European security. An agreed note to Germany is expected to specify terms the Reich must accept before any security pact offer can be considered.

Cars blocked. supplies move by Illinois Central branch line. Estimated insured losses around $1,000,000 with total damage near $2,000,000 to $3,000,000.
Edward Palamdizio and his wife were found slain in their flat on the west side ghetto. Mrs Pacifi co was wounded in a nearby room in a mysterious shooting police suspect as Black Hand. Pacifico and Anegeto Perpedio, a boarder, were held for questioning.

M A Franklin filed suits in district court seeking 497.90 from B B Hartman and Ora L Hartman. Guy Donald, Corydon laborer, filed a voluntary bankruptcy petition listing 67686 in debts, 64881 unsecured, assets 850, 2300 exempt. Two Creston youths charged with auto tire theft had tire returned and were sentenced to 0 days in jail with sentence suspended on good behavior.
Clede Hastings of Creston was taken to Red Oak Saturday night to face a desertion charge. He was arrested by Sheriff Fred Gotlings and held for the other officer. Bond was recommended at $1,000 by the district court clerk, with M. L. Burt and HOH Martin signing.
Word arrives in Creston of the death of Frances Elizabeth Lewis aged 10, daughter of Lowell Lewis, at 98 South Emerson street Denver. Death occurred this morning at 7 30. Her mother Mae Lewis died in Creston on December 21, 1924. The Junes’ party will arrive in Creston Wednesday at 10 17 and burial will be in Graceland cemetery.

The Teapot Dome lease annulment case proceeds in federal court with arguments focusing on the legality of the order and the lease terms.
Bryan Houthern, 25, confessed today to two consecutive holdups of Bruno Gamgale grocery store in Des Moines. Albert McConkey identified Houthern as the pistol-wielding robber and was bound for the grand jury after the March 12 incident.

General Pershing was appointed by the White House to supervise the Tacna Arica plebiscite under the Chilean Peruvian arbitration award. President Coolidge asked Pershing to lead the commission after a detailed discussion on the plebiscite problems following his South America trip.
Senator Jones of Washington sails Saturday for South America to study shipping conditions in Brazil Argentina Paraguay Uruguay and possibly Chile on a month long trip with his wife returning in May. He will draft a bill to separate the functions of the shipping board and the fleet corporation and discussed shipping issues with President Coolidge.
Chicago March 23 St Mel high school of Chicago defeated the Marquette university high school quintet of Milwaukee 15 to 7 last night to win the national Catholic interscholastic basketball championship. The Cardinal Mundeein cup symbolized the title. St Foriek's high school Pueblo received two trophies for top scoring and longest travel distance as 32 teams competed starting Thursday.
Ira Doss 25 of Clarke county, who escaped from Union county jail in 1922 while awaiting federal liquor charge arraignment, was arrested Sunday afternoon by Sheriff Fred Collings and jailed here. Doss faces January 1923 indictment for jail breaking. He was captured at a brother’s home north of Hopeville. A prior accomplice Hunt, later imprisoned in Ohio, was sent to Anamos to serve a 10 year sentence. Also, G S Williamsen of Greenfield, jailed on false checks totalling about 185 dollars, claimed he acted in good faith and hoped payment would come, per Justice Adam Pickett.
The funeral party of Freddie Wilson of Keokuk arrived in Creston and the body was taken to the Deitrick chapel. He was a World War II veteran, survived by his widow and son Roy, his mother Dorothy Wilson of Danville, and an aunt Mrs. Frank Barnes. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1 pm at Deitrick chapel with Rev. Owen Thomas officiating. burial in Fontanelle cemetery.
Contributions to a relief fund for tornado struck Illinois Indiana Missouri Kentucky and Tennessee include Oliver James EB Kinney Mrs M F Stever and many workers. Union County Red Cross chapter leads with 250 dollars and all funds will be sent to the Red Cross.

Southwester n Iowa invites 75 schools to the fourth annual Blue Grass track meet at Irving Field on May 16 under the high school athletic department. The Creaton Concert band directed by Charles A Hayden and the school orchestra led by M Theodore Jennings will perform a joint concert tonight in the high school auditorium starting at 8 o'clock. The group, formed last year and sponsored by the Teachers' association, includes 25 young musicians from two grade schools a parochial school and the high school. Robbie Osborn aged six serves as drummer.
