Reports at noon showed 815 dead with about 3000 injured as storms and a tornado devastated Kentucky Illinois and Indiana. The Associated Press list tallies 577 identified dead with widespread burials under way and relief efforts expanding across affected towns.

A U S grand jury indicted 48 Cincinnati police department members on four counts conspiracy to possess liquor transport sell and maintain a nuisance. United States Marshal Stanley Borthwick delivered the list to Police Chief William Copeland who must notify defendants to appear and provide bonds for U S district court.
Four persons died in a head on collision near Carlinville Illinois when a work car and passenger car on the Illinois Traction System dined. Motorman William Reese and a Springfield conductor were among the dead. several others were seriously injured as wreckage and passengers were thrown from cars. A relief crew was dispatched from Springfield.
The official Red Cross board in Mason City authorized sending 500 dollars to St Louis for relief in the tornado region. Illinois reports 47 dead in White County with eight schoolhouses demolished and widespread livestock loss while De Soto and surrounding towns receive coordinated aid from federal state Red Cross and civic groups. Murphysboro Illinois reports a shift from search to relief as the most devastating local tornado aftermath unfolds. West Frankfort Benton MacLeaneboro Logan Parish Murphysboro and De Soto bear heavy losses with about 125 dead and 150 homeless in Bush Lil. De Soto records a high child death toll and officials say up to 176 known dead and more than 400 injured.
Des Moines reports the state high school basketball tournament opens tonight with class A and B teams in action at Ottumwa and Boone. Four district winners from last week begin play. West Waterloo and Spirit Lake face at Ottumwa while Boone hosts Lawton versus Dysart and Ripply versus Grandview in the opening games.
The Associated Press reports a new commercial air line will link Boston and St Paul. Passengers will be charged 15 cents per mile for the 1,400 mile route, with a 14 hour flight time.
A coroner jury ruled that an unknown man found on the Great Western tracks at Arispe died accidentally when struck by a moving train. The verdict noted the March 17 incident about 7 a.m and found no identification on the body. The body is to be held pending relatives or friends, with burial planned locally.
Creston high school mixed glee club enters the district music contest in the mixed chorus division to be held Friday afternoon March 27 at Stuart under Town Musical Activity association. The Creston group travels by auto led by Miss Harriet Goodsell. Members listed include Evelyn Heese Mildred Allen Alice Bell and 21 others. They will perform The Slave Dream by H Alexander Matthews.
Chicago and Winnipeg reports show wheat prices tumbling at the open with losses of over five cents, then rallying to close modestly higher. May futures moved from about 1.58 to 1.68 a bushel, aided by dust storms in Kansas and Oklahoma and tighter export prospects from Canada.
William Jennings Bryan, veteran presidential candidate and Democratic figure, turned 65 yesterday in Lincoln. Judge C H Slama of Wahoo, just back from Bryan's Miami home, said Bryan is now rated a millionaire, having earned substantial Florida real estate wealth.
On Tuesday March 31 at 2 pm the Creston independent school board will open bids for a 270000 high school building. Dozens of bidders including local firms from Creston and other states will compete for the general contract with final construction about 15 months and costs around 4200000 including equipment funded by bond proceeds.

Dr A H Quin Jr son of Dr A H Quin 511 New York Avenue has been appointed associate editor of the Northwestern Veterinarian published in Evanston Illinois. He comes from Ft Dodge firm after graduating from Kansas City Veterinary College and will relocate to Evanston this week to start the new role.
