Gwendolyn Phares a five year old Fort Dodge Iowa girl living with her grandparents in Leigh Nebraska was abducted by a stranger driving a large auto with an Iowa Webster county license. Police and posses searched the countryside as authorities from the area were notified. The man, about 25 with a mustache, coaxed the child into the car and fled westward.

Creston Man Convicted in Adams County
J. R. McCown of Creston was found guilty by a jury in Adams county district court on a charge of stealing chickens. The verdict followed six hours of deliberation and involved McCown, his wife, and two sons after the August theft during a trip to Page county. Authorities testified the two boys Harold and Fred were found in a chicken house and bags of birds were recovered from the family car. McCown has 18 days to file a motion for a new trial.
