Gainesville Fla March 14 The University of Florida reports a sevenfold rise in instruction numbers over the past year establishing a national record. The Florida General Extension division enrolled 5804 students in its first year drawing learners from every county in the state as well as 19 other states and foreign countries.

New York on March 11 reports that a ruling by former Attorney General Palmer allows permits to manufacture beer for medicinal purposes containing more than one half of one percent alcohol. Jacob Ruppert, head of a major brewery, and other large brewers said they would produce real beer.

Chicago March 14. Rail way labor unions demand subpoenas for railway executives to testify before the United States labor board on national agreements. Frank P. Walsh asserts the board failed to issue orders, calling for united action and alleging collusion with packers and railroad leaders. Four heads summoned include T DeWitt Clyler, W W Atterbury, Carl R Gray, and R S Binkard.

Chicago and St Joseph markets show cattle receipts around 22 000 and 4 500 with steady to lower bids across beef and dairy categories. Hogs trade firmer with 10 to 15 cent gains and top around 11 50 per hundredweight while lambs and sheep ease slightly at St Joseph and Chicago openings.

St Louis March 14 The Government barge line will receive added equipment soon enabling at least six sailings monthly from New Orleans and St Louis terminals, up from three to four. A second 1,800 horsepower boat, to be based at Point Pleasant, is due after April 1, joining the Natchez and other vessels. The service now has forty 2,000 ton, two 1,000 ton and three 500 ton barges and earned more than expenses in February. a $400,000 East St. Louis barge terminal was completed for easier transfer of freight from rail to barge.
Des Moines March 14 The state senate amendment to the soldiers bonus bill to include the student army training corps was rejected unanimously in the house. Representative Ray Venter veteran and chair of the house military committee urged concurring, prompting applause. The bill was returned to the senate, with possible conference action if the senate insists on the amendment.
The American Association of Tokio voted to invite American women in Tokio to join. The constitution allows American citizens as members and the group ruled that U S suffrage rights grant women membership on the same basis as men.
Edna Tilligrew of near Sioux Rapids Iowa charges husband Nels Tilligrew forced her to labor in the fields and perform all housework while caring for two children. She married at 15 in 1909 and left after a February 1920 pistol threat, now living with her parents in Omaha.
A letter mailed in 1871 from a Wilhelmstrasse book firm to a relative in Liverpow England returned after fifty years. The envelope and letter are in perfect condition and no objections were raised by postal authorities. The addressee is listed as unknown, pending successor notification.

The session saw heated clashes and a committee probe of the Bank of North Dakota. Reports note 80 of 205 Senate measures and 79 of 217 House measures cleared, with no vetoes by Governor Lynn J.
