Unofficial returns from 29 of 31 Iowa mine unions show 5534 in favor and 287 against a strike set for April 1. John Gay, secretary of the Iowa district, reports all unions approve. He says 13,000 to 14,000 Iowa miners would be directly affected by a strike.
Fauvie's Star owned by A V Barnes of New Canaan produced 206 616 pounds of milk in a year at Connecticut Agricultural College setting a new record surpassing Passport owned in New York which previously held 19 695 pounds.
Oregon will face a labor shortage within two or three months says State Labor Commissioner Co. H Gram. He notes unemployment eased after January with about 17,000 men out of work in the state.
Ashington March 9 Secretary of Labor Davis urged coal miners and operators to join in common sense to avert costly strikes. He said he would seek a joint meeting of operators and miners before wage agreements expire on March 1.

George Holloway died at a Des Moines hospital after gunshot wounds suffered at his home the previous night. Officials believe he may have taken his own life. Chicago police report a Hip Sing Tong declaration of war to drive Bing Kong tong adherents from Chicago and the Midwest after the murders of Joe Suey Quong and a Minneapolis Chinese man. Hip Sings collect funds sent to San Francisco and Seattle to aid the feud. Tom Wing is sought as Quong’s killer.
London March 9 The political situation remains unchanged. The prime minister, though able to preside over the cabinet, delays his Criccieth departure until Friday. In the Lords, Lord Carson lambasted the government over Irish policy, accusing it of humiliating loyal servants and exposing former constabulary to mistreatment.
Miss Mabel Bonney arrives in New York to lead France's first visual education program. The 26 year old PhD holder from the University of Paris aims to teach geography through people and culture using films as the main tool. She plans a three month rest in America before touring Africa and the United States to select photography sites.

Union Pacific won interstate commerce commission approval to take over the 44 mile Saratoga & Encampment railroad under a three year lease with an option to purchase at 275000. The line runs in Wyoming and will join the Union Pacific system.
St Louis March 9. Mark Larkin veterinary surgeon and deputy state inspector of cattle at the National Stock Yards was shot and killed today by John D. Hawkins chief inspector and Larkin's supervisor. Hawkins surrendered to police and said Larkin had threatened him.
Sheriff George Giltner travels to Winnipeg Ontario to extradite Eldon Mayor F E Fite who vanished two years ago on a charge of cheating by false pretenses. William Brays of the Parmers Merchants Bank accompanies the sheriff.
A Rome dispatch reports Giovanni Giuriati, deputy from Venice, has been proclaimed head of the Fiume government that will replace the Zanella regime. Giuriati was formerly Gabriele d Anunzio’s chief cabinet at Fiume.
The American schooner Victor carrying 2000 cases of American and Scotch whisky valued at 400000 dollars was seized by customs inspectors in the lower bay today and tied up at the Battery pending court action.
Cedar Rapids March 9 W H Brock 45 an auctioneer died after falling from the fourth story of the Magnus Hotel He was en route to Creston Iowa to conduct a sale and fell from his room window possibly due to dizziness His death comes as auctioneers rally for the Fifth Annual Aberdeen Angus Breeders sale in progress at Aberdeen Angs sale continues despite the loss of a leading figure from Martell Iowa.
Des Moines March 9 Chief Roscoe Saunders orders immediate arrest of anyone with a police record and no visible means of support. The drive targets gambling and all vice following the Ozark actress store bombing incident.
Washington March 9 Approximately 80000 government employees holding their positions by presidential order are not entltled to retirement act benefits. Attorney General Daugherty's opinion states 6400 of 8000 retirees received compensation illegally. Only those in government service via competitive examinations qualify. Interior Secretary Fall plans a bill to address potential inclusion of 86000 employees and to safeguard future retirees. No refund required for those paid illegally.
Dr. M. P. Brown, 75, a veteran Davenport physician, collapsed in the county treasurer’s office after being told his tax amount and died of heart failure. The incident occurred in Davenport, Indiana, on March 9.
Harold Craig, 22, told his sweetheart he would inherit $20 000 and later claimed a highwayman robbed him of a 5750 diamond ring and $1500. Sheriff says Craig later admitted faking the holdup to bolster the story, citing his wife’s growing curiosity about the legacy.
