R. S. Marshall of Richmond Virginia son in law of Mr and Mrs W H Gentle recently was elected vice president of the Chesapeake and Ohio railroad and has assumed the duties of the position. He was elected by the directors to fill a vacancy. Marshall formerly was assistant on valuations to President W J Harahan and is the only general vice presidential officer of the C O system. He rose to prominence over merger attempts and is well known in Creston.

W H Betts of afton area waived to the grand jury Saturday after arraignment on a charge of selling mortgaged property. The Farmers Savings Bank of Murray filed the charge. Betts could not post a $1,000 bond.

A special Cromwell election held June 16 to dissolve the consolidated school district is contested by dissolution supporters. The Grand Army of the Republic and the Woman's Relief Corps will receive a permanent home in Corning through the generosity of Mr and Mrs GA Haynes. They purchased the Brown school building for 5000 dollars and will deed it to the two groups with an annuity of 150 dollars to the Haynes couple for life. The property becomes the Margaret Wilson memorial and will be owned by the organizations after their deaths. The Relif Corps will move 950 dollars worth of furniture, civic support includes paint and rugs, and members plan Memorial Day plantings. the corps has about 75 members.

60 Injured When Train Jumps Rails Near Durand Kansas
A derailment of three cars of the Missouri Pacific Southerner on the New Orleans to Kansas City route near Durand left upwards of 60 injured.
