Edwin T. Meredith longtime secretary of agriculture in the Wilson cabinet and farm publication publisher died after a long illness at age 51 in Des Moines Iowa He passed away at 6 oclock with family by his bedside Funeral services set for Wednesday at 2 pm Meredith was a national figure in farm press politics and sought farmer welfare since starting as a dirt farmer early in his career.

Rev J Newton Sours of Corydon will be the new pastor of the First Christian church in Creston replacing the late Rev George Heny. He will start within 30 days with his wife and their three year old son moving to Creston after he completes duties in Corydon. The call was unanimously approved at a meeting led by Rev J Arthur Dillinger of Des Moines.

Hearing Set for Harry Cruzen on Assault Charge
At noon today Justice Ros Peterson set a hearing for Harry Cruzen charged with assault with intent to do great bodily injury. The filing by S J Madison occurred Saturday before Justice John Carson and the case was transferred at Cruzen's attorney request. A not guilty plea was entered. Two Creston men arrested for intoxication were fined ten dollars and costs each before Justice Ross Peters.

Iowan Slays Two Then Shoots Self Near Incline
