Kansas City June 15 Hoover won the Republican presidential nomination on the first ballot with 837 votes of 1084 cast while Lowden's withdrawal shifted support to Hoover. Mail Theft Charged To Chariton Man
James F. Tinder, a Chariton city letter carrier, waived to the federal grand jury on a charge of embezzling $4 from a letter mailed to Mrs. A. T. Swanson of Chariton. He posted $1,000 bond. Inspectors F I Bell and F W Spencer filed the charge, claiming marked money was taken from the letter sent from Lancaster, Missouri. Max McClain, arrested at Atlantic, was ordered held to the grand jury on a charge of transporting a stolen car from Denver to Atlantic. The vehicle, owned by Charles Phillets of Laramie, Wyoming, was tied to special agent F E Hurley. McClain remained in the Union County jail after failing to post bond.

Witness of Lincoln Assassination Dies in Iowa
Jefferson Iowa June 15 A witness of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln Chick Kehoe 80 year old actor died here last night. He became ill when a stock company was playing in Perry last week. Arrangements were made to take the body to Rapid City Illinois for burial.

At Kansas City Convention Hall on June 15 Senator Charles Curtis of Kansas was chosen as the Republican running mate for Hoover in a near unanimous roll call.
