Ernest Dixon of St Joseph Missouri will represent his city at the St Louis celebration for Col Charles A Lindbergh. Both men are aviation reserve corps officers and friends from an army training camp.
Three surveys for primary road No 2 north of Creston were submitted to the Union county board by Fred White Ames chief engineer of the state highway commission. Possible grading this year. One route would keep current alignment with corners eased. A second would go two miles straight west from Creston past Grestmoor Golf Club then north into Orient. A third east route would run along the railroad tracks for several miles.
Mrs. Mary Patera of 604 South Vine Street died at home this morning at 1 30 after a three year illness. She was 59 and is survived by her husband Antone and two Iowa City siblings. Funeral services will be Monday at 9 AM at St. Malachy’s Church with Rev Stephen Wise officiating, interment in National Bohemia cemetery. Body remains at McGregor Brothers and Coens' chapel until the funeral.
Creston Junior college girls quartet Pauline McGregor Pauline Hurlburt Maxine McNees and Lucile Heflen with accompanist Bessie Mudra received many calls and telegrams of congratulations after performing from radio station KMA Shenandoah yesterday afternoon. S Ray Emerson and Mrs Emerson joined them for the auto trip. program featured Lassie of Mine Rose in the Bud Ho Ho Ha Ha Me Too Pal of My Cradle Days Ham and Keys Witches Dance Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover Four Leaf Clover Carmena.
The second band concert of the season is scheduled for Sunday afternoon June 2 at McKinley park. Director Charles A. Hayden announced tenor soloist Charles L. Heflin will perform with the municipal band for about one hour. The program includes American Legion march, Over There, Cloth of Gold overture, Blue Skies, Ave Maria, Mose Trombone, The Glow-Worm, Hi Ho the Merrie, Moonlight on the Nile, Our Yesterdays, American Patrol, The Circus Parade march.
The Burlington railroad cancels the Sunday June 19 excursion to Kansas City due to insufficient passenger cars for the Lindbergh celebration in St. Louis. Announcement made today by Dale Ells, local ticket agent.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o clock Saturday afternoon for Lewis M Boyer who died Wednesday at Marshalltown. The rites will be at the home of his daughter Mrs H E Gidley 201 East Clark Street conducted by Rev C W Graham pastor of the Methodist church Burial will be in Grace Land cemetery.
Mrs. Charles Evans and Mrs. J E Evans of Creston recover from injuries after a Sunday auto collision near Clarinda. Mrs Evans remains in Shenandoah hospital with severe bruises and cuts while her sister in law, Mrs J E Evans, improves at home from a fractured collarbone. Baden Powell of Creston sails to London to join his mother abroad. Miss Dorothy Kater of Pine River swims McKinley Park Lake with her sister Leota visiting their aunt Mrs Frank Donelson of Kent.
Memph is with Charles A Lindbergh aboard as Navy dirigible Los Angeles and air flotilla greet the New York to Paris flyer off Virginia capes. Mrs Evangeline Lindbergh awaits his arrival in Washington with President Coolidge to host the aviator during the air demonstration and official welcome.
The body of S. Gibson Mumma arrives from Miami tonight for a 2:30 p.m. Saturday service at Deitrick's chapel. Burial will be in the family lot at Graceland Cemetery, with Mrs. Mumma accompanying the body from Miami where he had died months ago and lay in vault custody.
Mrs L B DeHart known as Miss Georgia Stream appeared in a dramatic recital at Kansas University Kansas City Kansas. She studied under Prof Karl Kettering and is the daughter of Mr and Mrs George Stream of Creston. She graduated Creston High School in 1922.
A party led by C. B. McGregor and Sarah Cunningham departs for Willmar Minnesota to visit the family of Rev. W. L. Cain, former Creston Presbyterian pastor. The travelers are joined by Mrs. Harry Coen Mrs. Guy Williams and Evelyn Webb with Harry Coen T. E. York Dr. A. S. Beatty and Guy Williams camping at Vermillion Minnesota this week.
Paris reports Premier Poincare secured a confidence vote 37 to 148 in the chamber of deputies on the government’s program of stern repression of radical activities. Justice Minister Barthou pledged rigorous prosecution even when radical deputies oppose the measures.
The Daily Advertiser urges Union county to act under the new highway control law effective July 4. It outlines that abutting land shall not face special assessments, that the state covers bond interest and principal, that county projects must be approved by the highway commission, and that state allotments for bond-backed hard surfacing must be paid within the biennium to avoid state obligations.
Creston hosts the district golf qualifier at Crestmoor with 200 to 300 players from the region. Match play begins Tuesday, with Friday marking the championship. A banquet and dance follow Tuesday’s events at Iowana hotel and Crestmoor club, all covered by the entry fee.

The Crestmoor Golf Club hosted the first 1927 Sunset supper at the club house with about 250 committee members and guests. General chairs were Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Brown's Victorians provided music for a club dance, and a long list of local committee members and out of town guests attended from Oklahoma, Iowa, Nebraska, and other cities.
Eight Union county youths entered in baby beef and pig club contests were hosted on a farm tour led by L A Nordhausen. Calves will be shown at the Union county fair August 22 to 27 and at the state fair, while pigs appear only at the county fair in Creston. Poultry meetings also were announced with several township sessions planned under Nordhausen’s direction.
Mrs. George Hensel of Ohio and Mrs. Hopkins with two sons of Walnut Til sisters of Mrs. J. M. Scurr left South Park street today to visit relatives in Omaha.
A meeting led by Fred R. White petitions a special bond election to finance Union county road improvements. A June 15 mass meeting at the courthouse will form a county wide committee and approve using state funds and taxes to repay bonds, with no added county tax.
