Washington June 3 The Coolidge administration pledges to press for a broader tax cut next year while signing a law that lowers federal revenues by about 361 million dollars for the coming fiscal year. The measure cuts income tax rates to the lowest since 1917 and rolls back several excise taxes with immediate relief to many taxpayers. Retroactive refunds of 25 percent to 1923 filers are to be paid as soon as Congress provides the funds.

Sweet Wins In First Complete County Vote
Burton E. Sweet carried the first county to report its complete vote in yesterdays primary. In Scott county Sweet defeated Brookhart by 1,239 votes 4586 to 3257. Dr. Charles Keyes won the democratic senatorial nomination in Scott county. Lieut Gov Hammill led W J Burbank by over 1,200 in the republican governorship race. Sweet also won Chickasaw county by 74 votes 1062 to 983 for the senate race.

Telegraph wires carried the state results to Des Moines while the Advertiser’s AP leased wire delivered figures to Creston as soon as received. The office stayed crowded until about 1 a.m. with many calling it a night, though some stayed through the night. Began at 7:30 p.m. Monday, the wire operated until 6 a.m. when a brief break for breakfast was arranged. Hundreds of telephone inquiries were answered by the Advertiser staff Monday night and today.

Lightning Strikes Kill Mrs Crawford and Son in Garden
In Bedford on June 2 Mrs Eliza Crawford and her 8 year old son Emory were killed when struck by lightning while gardening. A second son is hospitalized in Clarinda, paralyzed. The incident was reported by Associated Press.

Bishop Homer Stuntz Died in Omaha at 6:30 A.M.
Homer C. Stuntz bishop of the Methodist Episcopal church died at the Methodist hospital in Omaha at 6:30 this morning after a period of illness. Born January 29 1858 in Albion Pennsylvania he served as mission envoy in India and the Philippines, led overseas war work, and held the Omaha bishopric since 1916. He had just returned from Miami Florida April 11 and had shown vitality before his final decline. His left side was paralyzed at the end.
