New York June 1 A steel barge loaded with 700 tons of oil struck the excursion steamer Washington Irving in dense fog in New York harbor. The 200 passengers and 150 crew were moved to other boats before the four thousand ton side wheeler sank. Attempts to reach the Jersey shore failed as the vessel settled minutes after collision. Captain Deming said the other boat continued on.
