Hay Fork Accident Injures Lewis Carter

Lewis Carter suffered severe injuries when his hand was caught in a hay fork at the William Carter place. He was lifted and dragged along the pulley, tearing and mutilating several fingers, with the little finger severed between the first and second joints. He received medical care promptly.

Politicians Visit Prescott for Homecoming Rallies

More than 4,000 residents and former residents gathered in Prescott for the homecoming opening. Senator Smith W. Brookhart of Washington Iowa, a Republican candidate for re election to Congress, was slated to speak at 2 p.m. at the school grounds. State Senator Lloyd Thurston of Osceola, another Republican candidate for U S representative from the eighth district, is set to address Thursday afternoon. Dan Steck of Ottumwa, challenging Brookhart for the Senate seat, appears Friday afternoon, with Leroy Munyon opposing Thurston also slated to speak Friday.

Senator Smith W Brookhart launched his bid for re election in Prescott a 500 resident town chosen by four candidates to begin campaigns. Daniel F Steck of Ottumwa will start his state campaign here tomorrow while Friday Lloyd Thurston and Leroy Munyon plan to begin their campaigns for congress from the eighth district.

Potatoes Entered For $5 Largest Spud Contest

The Advertiser hosts a $5 cash prize contest for the largest Irish potato grown in Union and adjoining counties. More than 35 entries are displayed in the north window of Tallman and Larson’s store in the Iowana hotel building. Williams shot three times after brawl in Marshalltown

In Marshalltown Iowa 42 year old Willie Williams of Daytona Florida was shot three times after a late night dispute. Ed Terrell returned from Des Moines and allegedly fired after suspicions Williams had shown interest in Mrs. Allie Storks. Williams survived, Terrell is jailed.

Seventeen Women on Union County Jury for September Term

Seventeen of the 48 trial jurors chosen Tuesday for Union county district court in Creston are women and 29 reside in Creston. Cres ton fans attend Taylor county fair opening

Cres ton racing fans traveled to Bedford for day one of Taylor county fair racing. The card included a 2:22 pace for 500 dollars, a 2:25 trot for 250 dollars plus added money, a half mile dash and an eight part run. Little Bunnie owned by Warren Dennis of Utah won the pace in straight heats. Eurice owned by McDonald of Marshalltown won the trot in broken heats. Walter Inn won the half mile dash in 50 flat and Colonel Marchmont won the shorter run.

Four Injured When Car Turns Over Near Shannon

Kenneth Gustin nine suffered concussion, Gerald 12 had a fractured arm and head cuts, Elmer Stahl 11 had an arm broken, and Pearl Gustin was cut and bruised when the car they rode in flipped southwest of Shannon City. They were returning from a Knowlton drive and were taken to Greater Community hospital after x rays. The accident was blamed on a broken radius rod.

Famous Golf Stars To Play Exhibition At Crestmoor

Cyril Walker open champion and Bobby Cruickshank multiple winner will play an 18 hole exhibition at Crestmoor Golf Club on August 6 starting at 10 am with a nine hole lunch break. Broken Axle Triggers Rail Yard Wreck

A broken truck axle on freight train No 90 caused about 80 feet of track damage and the derailment of three cars in Creston yards. The event occurred at 9 30 Tuesday night with no injuries as wrecking crews cleared tracks by morning.

Des Moines reports state Senator John E. Thell of Davis County resigns effective with the sine die adjournment of the special session.
