In Peoria Illinois, July 25 a mine accident occurred when a five ton rock collapse struck a roof support as a mine car derailed. Ernest Bowman was killed and several workers injured while Bowman and nine others were handling the car.
Homer Smith of Calhoun Missouri to meet Luis Firpo in a ten round bout planned for August 3 in Omaha Nebraska. Boxing commissioner William Raven initially objected saying Smith was not capable to fight Firpo, then admitted he had the wrong Smith in mind.
Reports from July 25 detail renewed flooding after local cloudbursts. Thermopolis, 200 miles north, is flooded and Boonville, a Burlington division point, has two to five feet of water in the streets. Estimated damage runs to about $100,500.
At Wheaton Minnesota a mass meeting drew six hundred farmers from five counties last night and passed resolutions urging President Harding to call a national conference to set uniform farm prices.
New York July 25 Albert H. Gary president of U S Steel will hold a meeting here tomorrow to abolish the 12 hour day for steel workers. The move signals a possible labor reform and could affect wage practices and shifts at major mills.

John A. Backman former city parks commissioner charged with embezzling 8000 dollars has been brought back to Des Moines from San Antonio Texas by Sheriff Findley. He faces a preliminary hearing in district court this afternoon.
Edward Linders of St. Louis was convicted of stealing his own automobile in 1919. He appealed to the supreme court, replevined the car to show ownership, and later had the car returned. The court upheld the St Louis decision. his only recourse now lies with the governor.
Chester Illinois July 25 Nine of the forty one convicts who escaped from the state hospital for convicts here remain unfound. Warden Petrie said he believed four or five were hiding in the vicinity and would likely be captured today.
Des Moines reports show lack of rain and continual sunshine with temperatures in the nineties slowing corn growth. Some areas report curling and firing, harvest nearing completion, and heavy wheat threshing in the south while alfalfa is being cut a second time.
The Seminole seized a motor dory with twenty cases of liquor after a patrol off the New Jersey coast amid threats to shoot Coast Guard officers. A second dory carrying 100 liquor cases was captured with three crewmen as the rum fleet, including British and Norwegian vessels, operates about thirty five miles offshore.
Funeral services for the late Bert Peak who died in Waterloo on Monday will be held Thursday at 3 o clock at his brother Edw Peak's home 206 North Oak Street with interment at Cromwell Cemetery.

In Denver, Rev. Father Walter A. Grace was found guilty in U S district court of forging a liquor permit application. The verdict came ten minutes after arrest. Grace faces a sentence ranging from one to five years.
