45-Piece Band To Play Here
A combined Crestion and Corning municipal bands concert is set for 3 pm Sunday at McKinley Park. The 25-piece Creston band directed by Charles A. Hayden will join the 20-piece Corning band led by Homer Snodprass. trombonist Clarence Heady will be soloist. The program includes marches, overtures, serenades, waltzes, and Sousa selections.

James A Reed of Creston died at 3 20 pm Thursday at Greater Community Hospital after a two week illness following an operation. He was 82. Survived by widow and three sons Sanford Rossie Edward Medford Ore and Donald at home and three daughters Verne Hicks Kansas City Dorothy and Thelma at home. Reland funeral home will handle arrangements.

12 Killed In Illinois Wind Storm
Chicago on July 20 reports a 64 mile per hour gale centered on northeastern Illinois. Twelve people died as lightning struck homes and streets flooded basements and power lines short circuited. Heat killed eight more and power and telephone service were disrupted. Damages to grain and buildings VARIOUS counties including Dixon and Aurora were noted.

Ferguson Will Go To Illinois
Rev. David Ferguson of Maquoketa who served St. Paul's Episcopal church for 16 years will take charge of St. Paul's parish at Warsaw Illinois after Sept. 1. The parish includes missions at Carthage and Hamilton. Ferguson has been in Maquoketa since leaving Creston five years ago. He and Mrs. Ferguson visited Creston and planned to leave this afternoon if road conditions permit.

Reed to be buried here after Chicago accident
Luther W. Reed, former Creston resident, died Tuesday in Chicago from injuries from an accident. Funeral services are set for 2:30 Saturday at the Methodist church with Rev. C. W. Graham officiating. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery.

Des Moines Man Ordered Out of City by Justice of the Peace
A Des Moines man arrested here on intoxication was ordered by Justice of the Peace Ross Peterson to leave the city at once or face jail. Jerry B. Sullivan, associate justice of the United States customs court and former Creston resident, with Mrs. Sullivan, visited Red Oak relatives before returning to New York City. The couple have recently traveled to the west coast.

Boy Drowns In Iowa River Near Marshalltown
Delmar Grace aged 17 son of Claude Grace a farmer six miles east of Marshalltown drowned in the Iowa river while swimming last night. An undertow is suspected and his father made a heroic but unsuccessful effort to save him. The body was recovered this morning. James Owens and family of Afton were visiting in Creston yesterday afternoon.

Wabash Freight Wreck Near Mineola Claims Four Lives

Employee Held In Leviathan Mail Robbery
Archibald Chapman assistant linen keeper in the steward's department was charged with stealing registered mail from the Leviathan during June 16 to 22 while at sea. Bail set at 7500 dollars for August 9 arraignment before U S Commissioner ONeill. Chapman is from London England. The Leviathan docked here yesterday. Commodore Cunningham said postal inspectors later valued the loss at about four thousand dollars higher than the initial figure. Detectives traced the matter after the robbery was discovered and mail senders confirmed items.
