An elevated train of seven wooden cars crashed into the rear of a subway train of steel cars in New York. Seven people were injured though the elevated train carried no passengers. Officials blame not removing the subway from the track and rain slip of the brakes for the crash.
Des Moines July 16. The five member Land Titles Commission appointed by Governor Kendall will meet tomorrow to adopt a program of procedure for investigations into land titles and real estate laws. Members are O R Myers chairman A M Parker secretary H A Huff E W Vincent and S C Rees. They will report findings and propose legislation for the December special session.
Workmen uncover an ancient bell at Nendrum Abbey near Belfast said to have been presented to St Michael by St Patrick on his ordination. The wrought iron bell, once bronze coated, is largely intact apart from a base crack and broken handle.

In St Paul Minnesota voters cast 3529 ballots with three contenders Gov J A O Preus Republican Magnus Johnson a Farmer Labor candidate allied with La Follette and James Carley Democratic senator hopeful amid a nationwide test of the Harding administration Analysts expected turnout to hinge on Republican support and predicted Johnson victory by at least 40000 votes from Farmer Labor sources

Des Moines reports the drowning of 16 year old Frank Morrow at Franklin Beach on the Des Moines river. He suffered epileptic fits in the water and drowned before a guard could reach him. It marks the first drowning death of the season in Des Moines.
