The King’s Daughters class of the Baptist church held an all day meeting at the church yesterday. They brought baskets and served dinner in the basement and spent the day finishing up nearly completed quilting. Mrs. M. Scovel attended as a guest.
The regular meeting of the L S to B of L F and E occurred yesterday at the I O O F hall with a social hour afterward. Plans were made for a July 28 picnic at McKinley park for members and families. Hostesses for the Ladies Auxiliary of Postal Employees were Mrs. Frank Main and Mrs. Chas Lichty at 1119 West Jefferson Street.
Several Creston Junior College girls enjoy an early beach swim followed by a park breakfast. Out of town guests include Violet Sherwood of Prescott staying with Miss Lucile Heflen at 205 North Jarvis Street and Katherine Pidgeon of Helena visiting Miss Margaret O Rourke at 318 North Bycamore Street.
The Loyal Workers of the Christian church met Wednesday afternoon to quilt. A large attendance included seven visitors. Hostesses were Mrs. Mushel, Mrs. Frank Welch, Mrs. S. J. Manatrey, and Mrs. Ida Brennan. Tea was served at the close.
A miscellaneous wedding shower was held Wednesday evening at McKinley Park in honor of Mr and Mrs Robert McDonald. Close friends attended and gifts were exchanged. A supper followed at 6 30 PM with well wishes for many years of happiness.
The notice lists H. Hamilton and family and many relatives including Mr and Mrs Edgar Hayden Mrs Jack Hayden and Mrs Rosa Drew among guests. It notes the bride's mother Mrs Roy Banham and states Mr and Mrs McDonald will make Creston their home after the ceremony.
A string of local residents make short trips and visits to Omaha Stanton Jamestown Red Oak Lenox and Des Moines. Persons named include Joe Elliott Mamie Mackin Delphine Abbey Maxine Abbey E. L. Carroll Virgil Kittleman Leo Friis and others visiting relatives in Burnaston Jamestown Lenox and Des Moines.
Marathon Iowa July 15 George Tallman engineer of the Northwestern died at 10 20 this morning from injuries after a wreck that left his engine and two cars in a ditch. Tallman 47 years service and nearly 70 years old had previously escaped serious harm in a 1927 accident. Two others were near death and several more seriously injured in the Des Moines bound No 24 wreck one mile west of Marathon.
The state board of barbers examiners organized today with Fred C. Sloan as chairman and I. O. Moffitt as secretary. A third member, John T. McGruder, joined as the board inspected over 1,000 applications for barber licenses.
Column rails at the D A R and praises Mrs Carrie Chapman Catt for urging women to work for peace. The piece mocks wartime patriots, notes Catt’s restraint under attack, and lauds her public stance against futility and stupidity of war along with reflections on royal households and dining room trends.
Edith Whipple visiting her mother Mrs E PD Whipple at 208 Adair street will depart tonight for her home in Washington DC.
Mrs Mary M Goldner left for Kent to visit daughter Mrs L A Heiman of Moberly Mo. Mrs J H Dowell of Kansas City passed through en route to her home after visiting Murray Whipple and daughter Louise of the Philippine Islands. Mr Whipple and daughter plan to return to Portland Ore after a Des Moines stay. Mr Arthur M Glick and spouse return tonight from a two week vacation in Missouri.
