Des Moines July 18 Senator Albert B. Cummins predicted President Coolidge will not run in 1928 after arriving from Washington. Cummins, defeated in a recent GOP primary, plans to retire March 3 and write his memoirs. He cited farm policy as Coolidge’s weak point and warned of MidwestWest conflict over tariff and farm relief influencing Senate control.

Strand Theater Hosts Advertiser Carriers Night

Missionary Brand Acid Branding Korean Boy Incident

Rain floods Creston area stranding shoppers and flooding roads

Churchill Announces French Debt Settlement
London July 13 The settlement signed in London yesterday by Finance Minister Caillaux covers not only the French war debt but all outstanding accounts between Great Britain and France. Chancellor of the Exchequer Winston Churchill announced in the House of Commons that French payments would total 4 000 000 pounds, 6 000 000 pounds, 8 000 000 pounds and 10 000 000 pounds rising to 12 500 000 pounds annually by 1930. From 1930 to 1956 the payment would be 12 600 000 annually, rising to 14 000 000 pounds for the final 31 years. There is no safeguarding clause in the agreement, but letters between governments allow France to ask for reconsideration if German reparations fail seriously. The British right to reopen the case remains. A transfer clause for delay in payments due to changing difficulties was also agreed.
