Two Iowa Farm Hands Slain Near Marble Rock
In Marble Rock Iowa on July 11 Will Schmidt 25 and Leland Van Sickle farm hands on Ted Schmidt’s farm were shot dead. Van Sickle was found near a machine shed and Schmidt in the dining room of the home. Empty shotgun shells and a Ted Schmidt shotgun were found on the property. Officers report no clues and weigh murder or self inflicted death theories. An inquest is scheduled for this afternoon.

Condemned Youth Escapes Jail Returns Voluntarily
Johnnie Vaughn 21 year old death row inmate escaped last Thursday with four companions by cutting a hole in the county jail wall. He telephoned Sheriff McCain saying he was ready for his room and was returned to the jail after five days in West Tennessee woods. Vaughn, who killed Roland Sell in March, faces state supreme court review of his case.

Three Italia expedition castaways found alive on Antarctic ice
Three members of the Italia expedition Dr Finn Malmgren Captain Alberto Mariano and Captain Filippo Zappi were spotted alive on ice west of Cape Platen north of North Fast Land by a Russian airman from the Krassin. They traveled 43 days across ice after being presumed dead and signaled the sighting with flags. The airman plans a landing rescue or routes for aid while the Krassin presses through heavy ice toward the Nobile group off Foyn Island.
