Chicago board reports mixed crop ideas with rain in Argentina and Australia weighing on sentiment. Wheat turns heavy down 1½ to 2 cents. corn gains late on buying while oats fall modestly and hogs support firmer provisions amid variable crop conditions across Iowa and South Dakota.

Sheep receipts 4,500 with lambs 50 cents higher and spring lambs 13.00 to 14.25, clipped ewes 5.25 to 6.25. Sheep market strong to 25 cents higher.
The visible supply of American grain rose for wheat by 952000 bushels and corn by 53000 while oats fell 20000 and rye dropped 94000 and barley rose 109000 in the New York market on July 5.
In Sugar, New York, on July 5 the raw sugar market remained quiet with spot Cuban duty paid at 4.46 and refined sugar steady at 6.20 for fine granulated.
Minneapolis July 4 flour market report shows Nour One price increased by 15 cents per unit. Quotations range from 8.35 to 8.55 per barrel for 98 pound bags. Shipments listed include Bran at 24.50 to 25.00 per unit for 79 934 barrels.

The martial band led by J. R. Fertig and son from Beaton Iowa drew large crowds at McKinley park. Manager KR Hannelly Cres on oversaw a group of three fife players and four snare drummers who performed several concerts during the day. Spectators called the band the best in the park and the nicest on the grounds.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Horn of Mt. Ayr spent the Fourth in Creston for the community celebration enjoying events and local activities.
A series of weekend accidents across Iowa left six dead and many injured. Victims include Peter J. Leinann 40 Anamosa and William Shepard 18 Oelwein both reportedly from health-related incidents, and Francis J. Martin 38 Ackley in an auto crash near Hampton. Four others suffered serious injuries in various incidents including fireworks and falls. Three men Richard Palmer O'Hara and Arthur Scott were detained in Des Moines over William Wagner death tied to a Fourth of July party.
Parade prizes were divided among five entries ahead of a Chamber of Commerce float. Eight men wore ribbons symbolizing diverse groups: business, schools, churches, capital, agriculture, service clubs, labor, and industry. Notable floats included U C T, junior college, railroad blacksmith, Iowa Southern Utilities, Pioneer club, and Women’s Relief corps car.

Mr and Mrs A L Roodell and Mr and Mrs L M Randolph returned Saturday from a three weeks motor trip through the southwest Yellowstone National Park and the Black Hills. They describe a scenic season with heavy rainfall in the west and northwest and recount aiding stalled cars and mud on Iowa and western roads. They deem June ideal for western vacations.

Norton Sullivan family and Miss Clara Norton return to Des Moines by car. F A Wagoner family from Leon spend weekend with Dr Lillie and Dr George Wagoner in Creston and escape a bee swarm accident on the trip home. Fire department responds to Rex Coal and Tee yard blaze from old ice house debris. Various other visits occur among residents including Miss Bernice Barnes from Council Bluffs, Miss Catherine Milnes to Drake University, Mrs Bettah Sanders to Ames, Mrs Bert Taylor and daughter Rene Elk City OK, Mr and Mrs Harry Jones from Marshalltown, and Miss Virginia Penniwell from Leon.
A flurry of visits and homecomings fills Creston as Miss Mary Kelly spends the Four in Omaha with friends. Denver guests Worth Humphry and family return home after visiting the Ross Sullivan house. Doris Tiffany arrives from Chicago for a two week vacation at the Drown home. The King and Pettinger parties travel from Denver and from Rochelle to spend time with local families. Various residents like Marjory Carey, the Parks and Silvers families, James Draper and relatives, and others are cited with weekend stays, visits, and travel back to their homes in Iowa and Illinois.
Charles Bishop of Newton and Edith Frus of Des Moines were injured when their car overturned ten miles northwest of Creston while en route to visit Miss Frus family for the Fourth. Bishop suffered a broken arm in four places. Frus was treated at Greater Community Hospital Creston. La Verne Keith of Cedar Rapids and family were seriously injured in a separate crash en route to the Fy(field) home near the same area. Keith suffered concussion and other injuries and was hospitalized in Cedar Rapids. London portrait painter James Sleator, who once taught Winston Churchill, comments on best results from wearing old clothes for Moyna Macgill’s portrait.
