Board Delays Road Action On Cherry Street Highway Plan
Union county supervisors postponed any action on turning the North Cherry street township road to Adair county into a county highway. They will review objections to transferring three miles of parallel road from county to township control. Objectors oppose losing that three mile segment and cite prohibitive costs to connect Cherry street with Macksburg. Action may come at the August meeting as Adair already designated the Cherry street route a county highway from the Union county line to primary No. 2. The board finished its work yesterday afternoon.

Ordinance On City Library Passed Here
The city council passed an ordinance establishing a free public library and a nine member library commission in Preston. Corning Man Dies In Dakota Plane Accident
Chester Gibson of Corning was one of three men killed when a plane in Meadow South Dakota caught fire in flight during a Fourth of July week event. The craft burned after refueling and crashed about 500 feet up, with victims burned beyond recognition. Gibson’s father and Ray Hilliard traveled to Meadow to retrieve his body for burial.

Chicago July 3 The corn belt conference chairman George N Peek urged Republican farmers to vote Democratic in November praising the Democratic platform as most favorable to agriculture. Peek, a Republican, said Kansas City for the GOP harmed farmers and labeled the Republican plank as an enemy to square deal for American agriculture. He noted the Des Moines based corn belt movement started in 1926 to stabilize farm industry and described the new Democratic stand as a declaration of independence for farmers. Gov McMullen of Nebraska spoke as a leader of the former revolt supporting the shift.

Creston will host a Independence Day air exhibition featuring three or more commercial planes from civilian schools and several United States Army aircraft. Lieut Isaias Davies will lead the formation from Kansas City to Creston, with planes to land near Graceland cemetery airfield and perform over McKinley park before refueling. Two army pilots survived a Kansas City collision previous Sunday. one aviator, Forrest Gregg Thackaberry, was killed.
