State House, Des Moines Jan 22. A proposed motor vehicle license bill would cut fees about 15 percent with a sliding scale for passenger cars and higher rates for trucks. The measure aims to offset highway upkeep costs and may be tied to gasoline tax support.
A bill in the Iowa Senate would transfer parole powers over female inmates at Rockwell Reformatory from the board of control to the state parole board. The move aims to consolidate parole duties and ease the burden on the board of control while gaining support from the board of control. A busy session featured bills on services for the blind, architecture examiners, and mining washrooms, plus a requested conference with railroad regulators on motor carrier laws. The House adjourned briefly with no new business.

New York January 22. A plan to raise five million dollars for the United States home missions is announced by the Catholic Church Extension Society as part of Holy Year activities. The appeal asks one thousand prelates and priests to donate one thousand dollars each for an education endowment and one thousand laymen to give one thousand dollars each for a missionary priesthood endowment.
Creston high school's football squad banquet will feature speakers from Iowa State College Drake University Minnesota and Simpson College. Drake star Sam Orebaugh and Iowa State quarterback Boehm have agreed to attend, with Simpson mentor Noel Workman and Minnesota coach Bill Spaulding possible speakers.
Berlin January 22 the reichstag approved the government's program outlined by Chancellor Luther by 246 to 160. The new government of Dr Luther was also approved by the reichstag by 248 to 180.

Four men in district court pleaded guilty to simple assault for attacking two klan leaders in Missouri Valley last summer. Romey Carpenter faced 100 dollars fine or 30 days in jail, Harold Calavan 50 dollars or 16 days, Jess Burkett 50 dollars or 15 days, Nate Bernstein 25 dollars or seven days. Twenty four others were arrested in the case.

In Jersey City a jury in the case against 12 Weehawken and Jersey City officials and civilians failed to reach a verdict after 18 hours of deliberation. The judge discharged the panel and Assistant Prosecutor McMahoney said the case would be retried within two weeks. Senator Edward J. Edwards was named as a backer during the probe.

Prominent New York lawyers were linked by prosecutors to Turman’s fraud scheme. Turman confessed forgeries totaling 1.3 million after bundles of checks showed payments to William L. Hanson and M. N. Koven and Archibald Palmer. Hanson, a Whitman associate, received 268 500 in checks and 30 000 cash. Koven received 313 379.99. Palmer 11 205 with note of repaid loans and another 12 000 loan outstanding.
William Bailey head of the identification bureau and Frank Badgley chief mechanic of the police garage were discharged after a civil service commission hearing for frequenting a disorderly house.
Julia Stanley traveling with a tourist party in Douglas is jailed 56 days and fined $150 after confessing to a hypnotic theft. She described using a pretend hypnotic state to obtain clothing and jewelry from Mrs. Montana before vanishing. Authorities later located her and she pleaded guilty in court.
Creston high school cagers swept Cumberland opponents at Irving Gymnasium, with the girls winning 53 to 13 in overtime and both Creston teams extending perfect seasons. Key players included Strance, Cook, Cox for the boys and Ruby Smith, Janet Huhr, Margaret O Rourke for the girls.
A writ of replevin issued in district court allows Mr and Mrs W N Carley of Adair county to seize alleged possessions of Ruth Bowerbank Carley from her parents Thomas and Mrs Bowerbank of Union county. The list includes furniture bedding clothing a croquet set and other items valued at 250. The petition states the parents refused delivery after her December 1924 marriage and the suit was filed yesterday with bond posted.
Des Moines reports President Coolidge was invited to visit Iowa and speak at the state fair on September 1. The invitation was sent by Governor Hammill and Lieutenant Governor Kimball, with Senator Cummins tasked to urge attendance. The note promises all Iowa will be present to greet him.
Hogs of royal blood drew buyers from 10 states to McKee Brothers winter sale near Creston led by Great Colonel champion Duroc Jersey. First hog sold for 170 dollars to R. K. Crane of Mt Pleasant with 48 hogs averaging 107.68 and total receipts 5172.50. Buyers from Indiana North Carolina Colorado Nebraska Kansas Missouri Illinois Minnesota Wisconsin purchased 21 of 48 hogs. only one to a Union county resident.
Afton officers face a broken water main crisis with a historic leak. A damaged principal pipe remains unfound after a months long search while well water supplies fluctuate between plentiful and scarce. Authorities suspect freezing and thawing caused the burst.
L Bidstrup of Great Lakes Wall Paper Mills plans a paint and paper store opening in Creston about February 10. He will relocate from Kansas City to 601 West Jefferson Street. The shop will operate from the Wilkins Building at 208 West Montgomery Street.
