Washington January 20 The presiding Vice President Dawes and Senator Reed clash over comments made on radio about the world court debate and Senate rules Reed says Dawes cannot reply on the floor while Dawes had attacked him over the radio last night Reed accuses world court supporters of exploiting his throat illness and cites an Andrew Carnegie article he wanted read The exchange continues as the tax bill awaits action
The New York Herald Tribune reports Wilda Bennett actress wed cabaret dancer Pepy De Albreau on Monday. The marriage follows a recent $37,500 verdict against Miss Bennett for allegedly alienating the affections of Charles C. Frey, a Kentucky turfman, as claimed by Mrs Katherine Frey.
Davenport banker confirms Dr. Raymond A. Pearson resigned as president of Iowa State College Ames effective Jan 16. He seeks another post with multiple offers while sailing to Europe planned for February. Herman Knapp named acting president and Prof. C F Curtiss discussed as possible successor.
Davenport Iowa January 20 George T Baker president of the Iowa state board of education said the board received President Pearson resignation as president of Iowa State College on January 18 He noted Pearson had asked for an extended vacation which the board granted before the resignation was held up The board did not elaborate further.
Urbana Illinois January 20 Farmers recalled President Kinley of the University of Illinois endorsing President Pearson of Iowa State College after Pearsons speech on his rumored resignation Pearson refused comment directing questions to the university board president.
Iowa City shows the largest proportional population gain in five years among Iowa cities. Census figures date from 1920 to 1925 listing 15,289 residents, up 4,022 or 35 percent since 1920.
Federal agents in Chicago plan to press to padlock the Morrison hotel on nuisance abatement charges. Owner Harry Moir denounces the move as conspiracies, entrapments, and briberies while denying willful violations and noting rewards offered for informer tips. Evidence centers on Liquor found with hotel staff and a visiting chemist. A report to Federal Director E C Yellowly is cited.
Rev. J. B. Congdon of Corning delivered the sermon at the Presbyterian church Tuesday night as Rev. Robert H. Robinson was formally installed as Creston pastor. Charges to pastor and congregation were given by Rev. W. P. Hanson and Rev. W. C. McClelland. An Indian scene pantomime featured Donald Green May Bantock and Pauline Fiers representing natives giving up Rev. Mr. Robinson to the local pastorate. The minister previously served as a missionary to India.
Attorneys for Mrs Vina D Gibson widow of Edward R Gibson contest railroad moves to halt a 70000 damage suit in Minnesota based on her role as administratrix of her husband’s estate. They seek dissolution of the injunction and reversal of the dismissal order with a hearing set for 1:30 Saturday.
The body of Mrs Lucy M Showers 88 who died at 436 am at Clarinda will rest at Roland's funeral home pending completion of funeral arrangements. She lived with her daughter Mrs A Bridgman 409 North Division Street. E J O'Donnell of the state motor vehicle registration department will visit Creston later this week to accept chauffeur license applications. The $2 fee applies to anyone driving for hire or a truck owner-driver. Applications may be filed with the county treasurer before the department arrives. Hog raisers from Iowa and nearby states attend the annual sow sale by McKee Brothers near Creston at the east end feed barn.
Creston high school's team Thomas Hawking Paul Huntington and Lavena Baker beat Villisca 2 to 1 in a district debate on state question and advance to meet Corning in the second round. Villisca speakers Mildred Dow Helen Gus Hollis Nordyke praised. citations to authorities criticized.
Addresses by Secretary of Agriculture Jardine Governor Small and ex Governor Lowden will be broadcast from the University of Illinois station WRM. Jardine speaks Thursday at 1 p m Small at 8 p m and Lowden at 1 p m Friday as part of Farmers week and the Illinois Agricultural association meeting in Urbana Illinois.
Irving School defeated the high school freshmen 15 to 8 on the Irving gymnasium floor. The Irving five led throughout the game with Craston R Truman and others contributing as listed in the readable lineup and substitutes Cummings and Petznick.
State budget director E. L. Hogue visited Creston to inspect the new high school and junior college building. He noted the cost per cubic foot at just under 28 cents, lower than recent public buildings in town, with total cost projected near 270,000 dollars.
Creston taxpayers appeal council move to issue 2400 dollars in improvement bonds for oil flushing of four streets. Budget Director Hogue heard evidence pro and con. decision delayed as both sides submit briefs. Witnesses included city officials, engineers, and the mayor who defended the work.
John A. Walton aged 52 of Belle Plaine Iowa, general chairman of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen for the Chicago and Northwestern road, was found dead in his Chicago hotel room after attending a meeting. Officials believe heart disease caused death. Walton, a passenger conductor, is survived by a widow and three children.
State Budget Director KB L Hogue praised community meetings held for Kiwanis and Rotary clubs and their guests. He said business professionals and farmers gathering shows a desire to help one another and supports churches schools and public interests, calling such meetings an asset to the state.

Winter's icy grip returns to western and northern Iowa with temperatures dropping sharply overnight. Sioux City reports two degrees above zero as a low, while Dayport, Dubuque, and Keokuk reach 24 above. No snow expected for 48 hours. A separate report notes two inches of snow in Council Bluffs by 2:30 pm and ongoing snowfall.
Mr and Mrs Willard Fattig and Mrs Mary Reed of Lenox spent Tuesday in the city visiting Reed’s sisters Mrs R M Johnson and Mrs Martha Bentley who are receiving treatment at Greater Community hospital.
