In Funtsville Alabama on January 20 authorities confirmed Joseph Jones of Merrimac was hospitalized after claiming a mule kicked him on the head. The mule’s leg was found broken in two places and the animal was deemed a hopeless cripple and shot. Jones is expected to recover.
Mason City Iowa reports a Tuesday night standoff as about 100 strikers gathered at the Deck and Sons Meat Packing plant while forty deputies guarded the scene. Fourteen new deputies, all former service men, were sworn in by Sheriff Marsh and stood watch as workers left for the day. Rumors of a state militia call were denied by officials. Local authorities maintained contact with the state adjutant in Des Moines.
Keota Iowa January 20 Henry Kanke a 45 year old farmer was killed last evening when his light plant exploded. The blast hurled his body 420 feet tearing clothes from his frame and scattering remains. An arm was found in a nearby cornfield. The cave plant wrecked the house and the victim left a widow and nine children.
Partly cloudy and somewhat unsettled tonight and Friday. Not much change in temperature.

Davenport officials charge Henry Schwenck a socialist candidate in the county treasurer race and deputy city assessor with omitting 92000 in farm mortgages from the 1920 tax report. Schwenck filed 2000 in money and credits instead of 54000 according to County Auditor Joe Wagner.
Waterloo Iowa January 20 Mrs Milton V Beckner seeks divorce claiming three years of married life filled with indignities. She says the final straw came when her husband called the police to search the house for a male visitor they did not find.
Mrs. Margaret Livingstone filed for divorce from husband David Livingstone in Kenosha Wisconsin after he was found living with her sister Thyra Lund in Davenport Iowa. A ten day old agreement required his return but he insisted Thyra Lund stay with them.
An application for a writ of habeas corpus on behalf of Ernest Rathbun serving a life term at the state reformatory at Anamosa is filed and set for hearing Saturday morning before Judge Dawley of Linn district court. It alleges a pardon by former governor Harding and that imprisonment is illegal.
Four youths in Hyde Park confess to more than 100 robberies and several kidnappings in the University of Chicago area. They say they worked six nights weekly and often compelled victims to car rides, sometimes with ransom or payment on departure. Two suspects remain sought.
O W Page pursued a $20,000 suit against H H Saunders an apartment hotel owner alleging alienation of his wife s affections after a film showed Saunders with Page s wife at New Year s festivities at a local hotel. Mrs Page had recently divorced Page who is a train man.

Des Moines January 20 Iowa legislators announced ready plans to redistrict after Congress fixes the number of representatives. Senate district committee chaired by Senator Greenell and House by Representative Alsted began work. Iowa expects to lose one seat under the new apportionment.
A verdict for the defendants was directed in the case against Woolf Teitel Gary Haynes and Sam Lanswick charged with conspiracy in the sale of capital stock of the Associated Packing Company by Judge Thompson in Polk district court today.
