Downey Rites Held for Hemett Downey at Lorimor

Hemett Stafford Downey born September 30 1851 near Troy Ohio died January 5 1924 at his Lorimor Iowa home after a brief illness. Survived by wife Emillia R. Perry four sons Roy Iva Loy Jessie Whitehead and Jessie Barnes two daughters Hazel predeceased him. Funeral at Lorimor Methodist Church conducted by Rev Carl Brown with two other ministers. Burial in Lorimor Cemetery.

Henry H Lorimer born October 20 1853 in Marion Ohio died January 9 1924 at his home in Lorimer Iowa aged 70 2 19. He moved to Lorimer as a child and resided there his life. He married Mae S Vert on March 12 1879 and had two children Waldo W Lorimer and Gladys V Garmon Des Moines Iowa. He leaves a sister Sarah J Reid seven grandchildren and his wife and children. A devout Methodist who joined in 1913 he served on the church official board until recently.

Meyers Defeats Turner in World Middleweight Title Bout

Johnny Meyers of Chicago won the world middleweight wrestling championship by defeating Joe Turner of Washington D C in two falls. Meyers used a stop ger hold and threw Turner after one hour eight minutes and thirty seconds in the first fall, then won the second fall in sixteen minutes.
