Death of Mrs Mary Frawley in Burlington

Mrs Mary Frawley 64 lifelong Burlington resident dies at Mercy hospital after a brief illness. She was widow of Michael A. Frawley and mother to J J Frawley Paul Will and Miss Mary Frawley. Funeral at St. Pauls Catholic church with burial in Sixth Street cemetery. Survived by sisters Margaret Griffin Elizabeth Gillespie and brother William H Brady.

Colorado State Printer Hicks Appointed State Printing Commissioner

Clark B Hicks 36, former president of the Denver Typographical Union, was named state printing commissioner succeeding the late Samuel J. Lewis. A linotype operator at an evening newspaper, Hicks has lived in Denver 15 years and led the union for two years while active in the State Federation of Labor.

Iowa lawmakers consider a library funding measure and an evening school bill. The library fund remains tied to per person limits of five to fifteen cents and a county superintendent may oversee purchases if districts fail. The evening school bill raises age limits from 14 to 21 and allows part time programs for ages 14 to 16.

The Flonzaley Quartet celebrates twenty years of sustained high musical ability with only one personnel change. Conductor Frederick Stock will guest with the Civic Opera Company this season as the Standard Bearers push for a full house at the January 31 orchestra concert. The Creston Concert Orchestra offers a new program following an enthusiastic but lightly attended October debut.

Local residents travel and minor fire report in town

Mrs S A Plum and daughter Maude left for Burlington due to the death of Mrs Plum’s brother John Hughes. Mrs C D Little of Pacific Junction returned home after visiting her mother Mrs Mary Kralik. A small fire in the Strand theatre was quickly subdued by city firemen with a chemical tank. Mr and Mrs E J Evans returned Sunday from Omaha where Mr Evans attended an International Hervester company convention. Miss Lulu Blazek came home from Omaha after a weekend with friends. Cleotus Small, son of Mr and Mrs C A Small, is recovering from severe freezing. Mrs Earl Macey and son Russell of St Louis returned home after weeks with her parents. Chas Connett and his mother Mary Connett left for St Paul after visiting in the city following a trip to Casper, Wyoming.
