Leon Iowa January 12 two days after attempting to extort fifty thousand dollars from Granville Long by threatening his children 15 year old Leland Hamilton pled guilty before Judge H H Carter and was sent to Eldora state reformatory until age 21. Hamilton confessed motive was to own a farm and the plot was inspired by the Edward Hickman case in California. He was caught when he took a decoy package with two hundred dollars in real money and other stage currency. The note signed The sign of the four ordered placing funds at a pasture tree on Ed Biggs farm and warned of mutilation of Long children if demands were not met.

A lecture on poultry marketing by L A Nordhausen followed, stressing profits from breeding improvements and reporting on county egg price surveys.
