Mr and Mrs Frank J Strunce of this city received a Graves Registration Service telegram from Brooklyn New York stating that their son Edward Strance killed in service overseas would arrive in Brooklyn about January 14 and be shipped here upon further instructions. The exact arrival date is not yet known.
An advertisement promotes Jad Salts as a kidney flushing drink for people who eat meat regularly. It claims meat forms uric acid that clogs kidneys and that taking rad Salts daily improves kidney function, reduces bladder irritation, and keeps blood pure.
A vintage advertisement touts Wyeths Sage and Sulphur Compound as a quick fix to restore natural color and gloss to gray or streaked hair. By dampening a sponge and applying small strands, hair darkens evenly with repeated use, claimed as a cosmetic, not medical, product.
The body arrives in Creston a few days after Brooklyn. Edward Strance, 28, enlisted May 12, 1917 in Texas, transferred to Fort Worth July 12, 1917, then sailed overseas with his company. He was killed in a railway accident in France on August 6, 1918 while en route to the front. Funeral details will be announced after body arrival in Creston.
J W Radebaugh Madison Co Farm Bureau county agent resigns effective January 1. He has bought 27 acres on the Breen farm seven miles north of Winterset and will start a poultry operation with 1200 laying hens. He also plans a commercial orchard and will focus on fruit and poultry ventures.
Jacob B. Gripp of Afton was the sole landowner in Union county to register a farm name in the past year. He titled his property southeast of Afton as Clovere Ridge Farm in county records.
Mrs. Nancy Bell Union county superintendent of schools entertained the court house ladies officials and girls at a Friday 5 o clock luncheon in her office. The luncheon featured ice cream cake coffee and candied nuts and was considered very enjoyable.
Laura Dixon county recorder filed an annual report showing 2657 instruments recorded in 1921 plus numerous soldier discharge papers. The tally includes 711 deeds 521 mortgages 400 releases and assignments 454 miscellaneous papers 65 concealed weapon permits and 45 certified copies and farm names.

Rex Ingram’s grand war epic The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse debuts Sunday at Strand Theatre. The $1.6 million production features Rudolph Valentino and a 50‑member cast with lavish sets, famed score by Ernest Luz Marcus Loew, and extensive production work including 1250 tons of materials.
Osceola Iowa reports Burlington railroad will complete and test a new automatic blocking system between Osceola and Creston in about ten days. The upgrade is expected to replace the old scheme and provide a much needed improvement.

The Advertiser reports the Statement of Conditions for Kent State Savings Bank of Iowa at Kent in Union County as of December 31 1921 detailing resources liabilities and totals. The document lists loans and discounts bonds and securities banking house furniture and fixtures real estate owned and other items with figures including total liabilities. Signatures include Walter Riggs and Wm Lininger directors.
Police in Winona Minnesota ordered two graves opened after a report that the body of Frances Bloch buried five years ago had been exhumed and decapitated. Officials say a European superstition linked deaths in a family to the first to die and claim removing the head would end the killings.
The text notes that since Miss Bloch's death five of her brothers have died, the fifth brother passing last Saturday and being buried yesterday.
The Adair delinquent tax sale was divided into two parts due to volume. The first sale brought in 6715.56 dollars, with the remaining properties to be auctioned at the county treasurer on January 15.
