Burbank Faces Suit Over State Funds in Four Banks
Des Moines authorities ordered a state lawsuit against former treasurer W. J. Burbank for 1 060 000 dollars in funds deposited in four Des Moines banks without proper security. The executive council instructed Attorney General Ben J. Gibson to file suit against Burbank and his bonds to recover the full amount he failed to account for to successor Ray E. Johnson. Banks involved include United States Bank 284 071.01 dollars Commercial Savings 253 576.02 Mechanics Savings 153 782.80 Central Trust 369 237.60. three banks have closed. The trust company is delayed by frozen assets but expects to meet the demand soon. A district court suit is already underway. Burbank had no comment.
