Ramsay Pushes Gasoline Price Regulation In Iowa
Des Moines January 4. A bill to cap retail gasoline at 12 cents a gallon with up to 4 cents extra for necessity will be introduced in the forty second Iowa general assembly. It places station control in county supervisors, requires licenses after June 30, and imposes a $100 daily penalty for violations. Secretary of State W C Ramsay sponsors the measure.

Treasury reports larger surplus than last year

Mrs Mahan Dies After Illness in Creston
Mrs Nancy Mahan 205% East Mills street died Saturday evening after a short illness. She fell ill at a Baptist church meeting on Dec 15 and was moved to Greater Community hospital. She later went to Clarinda hospital and her body was taken to McKinney Texas for funeral services. She leaves two sons Y Johnson of Denver Colp and Norman T Johnson of Sioux City. her mother and several brothers live in McKinney. She was a longtime First Baptist church worker and Creston resident.

New York Jan 4 customs officials report the existence of an international smuggling ring using sailors from Belgian ports to bring large quantities of diamonds into the country. They confiscated about 500 carats worth $125,000 in gems sewn into the socks of Belgian seaman Franz Tielemans aboard the Red Star liner Pennland. He was arrested.

Hedrick resident Mrs Ida Hawthorne was struck and killed by a westbound Milwaukee freight at Hedrick at 3 35 this morning. The woman, in a night dress and slippers, stepped onto the tracks from her brother Frank Davis home and could not be stopped before the engine severed her body. The engineer William Franklin emergency braking effort failed to avert the tragedy.

Soviet to Begin Work on $65 Million Volga Don Canal
