The Union County Board of Supervisors completed its re organization with Fred Henderson named permanent chairman for the year and L F Godding designated as visiting member. The board inspected the Union County Farm during today’s session and will publish full proceedings soon.
The Magnateewan Camp Fire meeting was postponed to next Tuesday evening. Public Speaking class members will present a chapel tomorrow afternoon during the 6th period. The R. T. and N. Club met at Adelyne Metz’s home on West Mills Street for music dancing and cards with refreshments. The Masque Dramatic club plans a High school meeting tonight at 7:30. Arlene Isenhour returns to school after a two day illness absence. Grace White visited Margaret Cashman, and Catherine Conway visited Blanche Stump.
Miss Alice G. Littig daughter of Mrs. Amy D. Littig and the late Dr. Lawrence W. Littig has been commended by Lorado Taft for her work as a sculptress at the Art Institute Chicago. She assists Taft on memorial statues and plans to lead a European study trip next summer with Taft as special lecturer for the Bureau of University Travel.
A Chicago Municipal court psychopathic laboratory volume proposes a model law to sterilize men and women deemed socially inadequate by eugenic experts. It calls for a state eugenicist to survey, court trials, and court-ordered sterilization if upheld, targeting paupers criminals inebriates and others. The report cites a Dutch note on tulip bulb cultivation.
Mrs Mary A Drumm died at her home 403 Broad Avenue last night after a long illness. She had lived with her son Ed Drumm since her husband’s death twenty years ago and was among Creston’s oldest residents. Funeral services will be held at MacGregor Bros Coen's tomorrow at 11:00, Rev Baumgardner of the Methodist church officiating, with burial at Graceland cemetery.
Mrs Dena E Meyer of 507 New York Ave received word yesterday that her oldest sister died in Germany at 83. The death makes two of six siblings deceased with an older brother aged 86 and the youngest 70. The family has unusually long lifespans.
Otto A. Keck former district court clerk has moved to Des Moines to join the Iowa State Soldiers Bonus Board. He expects assignment to a regional district but does not know the exact territory yet.
Mrs Blanche Copeland, confined at home for months, received a telegram announcing the death of her aunt in Cedar Rapids. She will be unable to attend the funeral due to the distance and her condition.
Henry Ford told a League of Nations delegation that a global cure for unrest lies in offering every able-bodied person a job. He argued expansion of industry, better farming methods, and worker education are essential, saying money alone cannot solve world prosperity. He urged farmers to adopt more farm machinery and improve productivity.
In Marion Illinois on January 4 the defense prepared to continue introducing testimony alleging that violent acts by armed mine guards caused the deaths of twenty non union miners, in the Herrin riots case against five men charged with murder.
The Loyal Workers society of the Christian church held a meeting at Mrs. H. Manatrey’s home with about 55 in attendance. Reports showed over 400 dollars cleared for church welfare, 245 paid on the parsonage debt and nearly 80 on current expenses.
Four storm tossed liners entered New York harbor late today after almost three weeks of gales. The Rochambeau fought the worst seas with fifty foot waves while passengers heard French concert singers singing to calm nerves. The Canada Asia and Providence also reported heavy winds and rough passages. The 390 Russian refugees aboard the Canada were among those affected.
A nationwide syndicate announces a sale of 75 million dollars in ten to twenty year federal land bank bonds. The issue carries 4 percent interest, offered at 1.01, yielding 4 4 percent to 1923 and 4 percent thereafter, with tax exemption at all levels. All twelve federal land banks report dividends and operations show a surplus.
Indiana University athletic director Ewald O. Jumbo Stiehm, back from Rochester after a second examination following last fall’s operation, was told to go home and forget his trouble. He will limit activities to light work during recovery.

Chicago January 4 coal operators and miners convened to craft agreements to prevent a soft coal strike set for April 1. In Qmatha on Tuesday night a watchdog named Fritz belonging to Pete Rekuski, owner of a shift drink parlor at 2702 Y street, was shot by burglars while defending the property. The burglary netted about 150 dollars in goods and 12 dollars in cash. Two other dogs helped repel the intruders as they fled in a small car.
Melvin Robinson sixty is in serious condition with knife wounds after threatening to kill himself if his wife did not return home. Police say he slashed his throat when she refused to come back. hospital officials doubt his recovery.
Four Benton county women will serve on the grand jury for the year 1923. Mary Cram Constance Grovert Minnie Engledow and Bessie C. Wiles are from Vinton and Shellsburg. Court opens January 15 with Judge Willett of Tama presiding.

Mrs. W. Wood has recovered enough to attend church. Mrs. Young was ill last week but improving. Ralph Williams and Elma Campbell visited Cummings and Omaha, returning to Prescott. E. M. Bell returns from a month with their daughter. Mrs. Harrison and family visited Burlington Junction. Mrs. Wallace and daughters spent Sunday in Creston. A W H M S program at M E Church featured solos, readings, choruses and a playlet Borrowing Trouble with luncheon funds totaling 3 238.00. Mr. and Mrs. Florence of Pleasantville are visiting Prescott relatives. Ralph Wood and sisters visited Creston on business. Mrs. Leigh and daughter Helen visited Bridgewater. Christian Sunday School officers elected for 1923.
