County Board Buys New Tractor For Road Work
Pleasant township reports the county board provisionally purchased a 30 horsepower Caterpillar tractor for 2650 dollars, 350 less than last year. Cromwell Wreck Claims 14 Lives Forty Three Years On
A 43 year reckoning recalls the Cromwell wreck on the Creston Division of the Burlington rail line near Cromwell. Fourteen people were killed either instantly or later from injuries as the train's rail gave way and the coaches slid into the creek below the collapsed bridge. A smoking car and first coach fell to the bottom, marking one of the worst accidents in the era.

The garage business run by George McLaughlin and Son in Cromwell was sold yesterday to James Kilgore a farmer living near Lenox who will take possession immediately. Kilgore was raised in the community and the McLaughlins came from Osceola in 1914 and entered the forage business in 1916. Their future plans are not announced.
